As a 30 something year old voter who considers himself moderate, I am sick to death of this campaign already. It does not matter to me, and most of the people I know what either of these two guys were doing 33 years ago. I think the Republican strategy to question Kerry's service record is insulting and just plain stupid when you consider that their guy did all he could do stay out of Vietnam as did Clinton. Granted if the Viet Cong attacked Alabama King George the second was ready for them.
The bottom line is that was then and the issues now are what should be important. What are these guys going to do to protect our country from attack? What are their plans to create and keep Jobs here? How are they going to fix the deficit.. Again?
What are their plans for the enviornment? FOr our schools?
How about a plan to fix the social security system so there is something there when I get there, or stop taking the money out of my pay!!!!

As far as being a protester of the Vietnam war, In my mind only someone who served there has that right. If he wants to throw his meatals away. albeit stupid, he earned them and it is his right to do with them as he will.

Another thing I strongly believe is that John Kerry won't get one single vote that anyother democrat wouldn't get. He is only going to get the anti bush votes. The hatred for this president in the Democratic party is amazing. Kerry could actually win just on that alone. It certainly won't be because of his stance on issues or his charisma, or because of his strategists that are brain dead.
He campaigned in Texas the other day. Why on earth do you go to Texas on Earth Day? You can't win that state so why bother wasting time there?

the less government gets done.....the better

dont need the federal government involved in my school; they already plunder enough out of my paycheck; we dont need anymore environmental laws nor do we need the federal government plundering anymore private land and calling it national parks

and we dont have any jobs that pay any more than welfare leaving the country....and those that are, are replaced with management positions...so everything is fine and dandy with that

so let them keep arguing about who served and who didn't....

Seriously though is anyone else tired of the strategical mudslinging?

We have a guy who like Clinton tried to hide from Nam.. Bashing a combat veteran who at least had the sack to go there.
Not a good plan of attack for the repubs.

On the other side we have a very wishy washy elitist who can't make up his mind on anything running strictly an anti Bush campaign. Who sided with the war on Iraq (big mistake) as far as his party voter base is concerned. Who also can't connect with the union vote that always goes dem, can't connect with the black vote, and is not capitalizing on a president who can't speak in public, can't think on the fly, and go anywhere without his boss.

If Kerry is going to rely on anti Bush sentinment to get elected
he is going to lose in a landslide.

All that has gone down in the past few months and Bush still leads recent polls.

Wish we had that little rooster Perot running again. At least he would be talking about the real issues.

Tossing Salads- *hope I don't get that backwards* almost everyone here feels the same. You just have to pick the candidate who you feel reflects your views. Be nice if Nader had a chance, but thats not the real world. If you haven't lurked here long you can search this for yourself.
Look what happened when Cali had the recall. Ahnold, Mary Carey. Gary Coleman, Larry Flynt, etc. GL2U & all of US

I agree with you salad tosser. The negative campaign tells me that neither candidate is willing to run on his record. It is insane for the Repubs to tear down Kerrys service record but the Bush people did the very same thing to McCain 4 years ago.
Once again we will be stuck with voting for the lesser of two evils.
But I don't think it is the politicians who have failed us. It is the press. We used to have Investigative Reporters. Real reporters who would be embarrased to report on A BJ. While millions of dollars where wasted reporting on Clintons sex life a known terrorist was busy planning to fly commercial airliners into the World Trade Center. Where were the reporters who should have been tracking him? They were too busy trying to find out what kind of Cigar Monica prefers.
The whole thing is disgusting. The candidates can't even talk issues because they are too busy defending themselves from the latest dirt the Press decided to make headines.

It sounds like Cheney is now getting into the election with some great remarks. If Bush should lose I think he will just hang on. But if he did lose. Look no father then Cheney for that happening.
You talk about a hand holder with bad advise.

the press reports what will get ratings....ultimately it is the fault of the citizenry

why the citizenry has been dumbed down lies more in the fact that we have been dumbed down through the years with a pathetic liberal education and lowered expectations promoting government reliance....the citizenry has not met up to those lowered expectations and require more reliance.....meanwhile this brain atrophy added to the atrophy from the trash shown on television has successfully taken the American mind down one level at a time.....

clear reason is no longer prevalent, the attention span has dwindled to where "what happened to whose medals", "who lied and who didn't", etc. etc. are able to dominate today's newsreal

Stevie--you bring up a good point, but I don't think it is possible. The press is constantly asking ridiculous questions and it is like watching a soccer game for 7 year olds. When the ball gets kicked over in the corner, everyone on the field chases the ball. The press is the same way. When some *intriguing* topic is brought up, every idiot press guy wants to ask his *insightful* question about it. The President (same here applies when Clinton was in office) is forced to address unimportant issues and the real issues are ignored.

I guess my question is how, as the American public, do we get this changed.

It is obvious why they ask the questions, though. You saw how this board lit up the day after Bush wouldn't answer "What is your biggest mistake in your term?" What a stupid ****ing question. That is the biggest Catch-22 there is. No matter what you say, the opposition is going to bash you because you should have answered in a different way. But even people on this board loved to hate Bush for not answering. It is our own ignorance that has put us here. (Once again, this applied when Republicans were crucifying Clinton).

Sorry for the rant.

Dawgball you make a good point. The press hounded Bush over that stupid question but they let slide another one that he didn't answer at all. He never answered why Cheney and Bush have to hold hands when testifying. They had to know that one was coming.
America has been dumbed down. I think the worst thing that ever happened to our country was the Communication Act. There is really very little competition now. With all the media being run by fewer and fewer people. Just look how entertainment has fallen off.
Yes. as Americans we get what we tend to watch but think about this the next time you are channel surfing and you stop because you see someone cooking an onion. You stopped because that was the best thing on at the time.

"the bunker"
the real question

the real question

is why some people had to testify on t.v.....essentially twice.....why?...politics.......plain and simple....scoring points...

that`s why it`s all a game....the hearings on 9/11 were a sham....what did they find out?....that the fbi and the cia don`t communicate?......

nobody knew that?

why did bush and cheney testify together?........

i have one...why didn`t gorelick testify?.....and why should someone so involved in the very issues that are being blamed for the tragedy not be answering questions instead of determining who is to blame?....because that`s what the hearings were all about....assessing blame...

the fox is in the henhouse..

once again, the democrats politically outflank the republicans.....i`m getting tired of republican political incompetence...
