I am at a cross roads, meaning that I have the money to retire starting in April. At least from my present position and thinking about going Part time. Benefits are of a topped out hourly rate of
$26.00 an hour $39.00 an hour on Sundays if I choose, work 25 hours a week, two bonuses a year of a total of 7k, winter leave of 30 days and have 8 personal days as well as being paid for 8 sick days. 5 weeks of vacation and a 5 am to 10 am shift Monday through Friday if I choose this schedule. Being able to add 24K a year in 401K while Part time.
The retirement income will not be far off of what I am living off of currently.
I will be 58 in another month..............
What should I do? walking away from a lot of money in my current position, walking a way from a lot of stress .......
Thoughts?

I want to be healthy enough to travel, and if I can get feedback from anyone that is currently retired, that would be great!

at 66 and still busting my ass 9 months a year I will tell the bad decision I just realized in the last 6 months..

Our bodies and gut tells us when it's time to enjoy the fruits of our labor..

I didn't and now pain ravages my body hourly..

On the course!
I can tell you this. I haven't looked back.

If you can maintain what you currently have, and are happy with that, why not start to really enjoy life?

walking a way from a lot of stress .......

Stress will eventually be the end of you. If you can honestly get out, then get out. You have no guarantee how long you have on this planet and you have worked too long and too hard not to enjoy all you can of it.

Good luck either way.

I retired from a well paying job at a young age & haven't looked back....

If you can afford it, retire & move on to a new chapter in your life....

Good luck with your choice & if you decide to retire, congratulations!!

I'm not retired nor close to even thinking about it. However, the advice I can give u comes from working in the hospital and taking care of hundreds of people with high stress jobs who did not retire and bought the farm and hundreds of more who retired and we're bored to tears and constantly in the hospital. Stress kills. Boredom and unhappiness kills. I know u a little and am confident u could retire and have plenty to do without getting bored and unhappy. I would encourage u to get out of that high stress and go for it!

58, work part time and still contribute 24k to your 401(k)?
And you are asking us for advice??
:mj07:

In all seriousness, if you are able to continue to contribute 24k a yr to a retirement fund that you won't need for a few years then by all means, do it!
At 58 there is a good shot of you living 30 more years-- providing you leave that stress behind as that will kill you sure as shit-- so any additional monies in a savings vehicle of any type is a huge plus for you.
And look at it this way-- maybe you do leave this mortal coil in a few years-- by continuing to work and save, your heirs will see that much more money.
And when you live until 88 or longer, you will have the means to live comfortably because you worked a few more years and banked that much more coin.

I have been blessed with a few income streams, the PT job is basically for the health insurance and 401K contribution. :0008

If you can swing part time, try that. It's still being in the game, while phasing yourself out. Get on the course a little more!

I will miss you two in Vegas.

Keep us in the loop with your plans!
