Only magazine that I read which picked Colorado to beat Nebraska in the start of the season. Haven't picked up the newest edition this year but those who play college F-ball should read it cover to cover.

Actually, it only confuses things :) . I've noticed discrepencies with other annuals before, but I've never taken the time to look at the reasons for the differences. I think that if you use any of the returning starter systems, it's best just to pick one source and stick with it. Thx for the info.

Great info, very valuable. How did that system fare last season?

My record keeping sux. I know all of my plays but not whether or not they are system plays. I had a thread like this last year but the college board from last year isn't on the server anymore. It was in the 57-59% range. I've followed this trend for 3 years and it's always been as good or better than that. Never any more than 63%. It makes sense but you've got to play all of the plays, even the stinkers like Arkansas State.

Problem, it would seem, is that guys get injured throughout the season, so figuring that out and factoring it in. Not to mention part-time starters, etc.

But it is certainly a good criteria to look at, for obvious reasons.

Last season, Washington State was an unknown team that I rode b/c they returned 18 starters and that paid very nice dividends. Great info BBC.

also at large schools their depth charts are sometimes 3-4 deep so a starter might only play 50% of snaps. like linemen who rotate very regulary. good info but just that, not enough of a reason to make a play. look at teams that play on turf then go to grass or teams like ucla or ohio st. that don't start school till late september gives them big advantages in the early season. i can't say 1 stat or system gives me an answer. this year running up the score will not improve a teams win for bcs. so less blowouts will occur, bad for chalk players.

BBC ---

All i'm gonna say about the descrepancies is , the Gold Sheet has been established since 1957 , I have been reading it since 1984!
I didn't intend to mess things up. I absolutley feel confident in stats, PR , and systems they provide. They're a service you want on your side. Not counting their write-ups on the next weeks games that are written on Sunday nite, shit can and will happen during the week preseading their selections.:)

We're in this together ;)

BBC good stuff I have used it in the past also and didn't keep strong records last year, (wife won a vacation week of 9/9 and was in FLA when 9/11 tragedy occured). But 2000 season it was like 59-60 % first 3 weeks then dropped off in the 4th week as I remember. We had to move in Sept 2000 so I failed to track it then also.

Regardless a very good angle to start capping first 3-4 weeks IMO.

Differences may be due to players moving to a different position on the same side of the ball, etc.

Cie Grant played LB in 2000 for the Buckeyes, in 2001 he started at CB, and back to LB this year.

Would you count him as a returning starter
 I would !

This is a first four games of the year system. I don't actually know the criteria the annual uses to classify someone as a returning starter. I've compared the 2002 to the 2001 annual and I can't figure it out. BTW, they do classify Cie Grant as a returner.

Hooks, meant no disrespect to you or the Gold Sheet. I've used Phil Steele's successfully in the past and that's the one I have. I don't have the Gold Sheet, so I will use Phil Steele's. They list the guys that they classify as a returning starter, so it's easy to see who's out due to injury and suspension.

System Record 0-1

No Play Penn State(15 RS - 1 Injury (Yisrael) = 14 RS) vs. Central Fla (10)

No Play Pittsburgh (14 RS - 1 injury (Pettiti) = 13 RS)vs. Ohio (9 RS)

PLAY ON Wyoming +30.5 (16 RS - 1 injury(Schap) = 15 RS) at Tennessee (10 RS - 1 injury(Washington) =9 RS)

PLAY ON Arkansas State -1 (16 RS) vs. San Jose State (6 RS)

PLAY ON Troy State +32 (17 RS) at Nebraska (11 RS - 2 injuries (Lohr,Amos) = 9 RS)

PLAY ON North Texas (19 RS) +35 at Texas (13 RS - 1 injury(Scaife) = 12 RS)

==============================================

I am little concerned with all of the value lost on these plays over the course of the week which is unusual for these plays. I don't think that it has to do with system players, I just think that people are overestimating the fact that the BCS computers don't take into account margin of victory. It isn't that critical as both the AP and the coaches do.
