Outright plays (1 unit):

Larry Nelson to win 16/1 e.w. @ Ladbrokes
Siding with Nelson again after he came so close to securing his first win since 2001. He finished in the top-10 in driving distance, driving accuracy, greens in regulation and putts per round last week so there are no fears about the state of his game at this stage of the season. Having also won this title two years ago, this represents another good chance to break his winless streak.

Morris Hatalsky to win 25/1 e.w. @ SkyBet
I do not know why Hatalsky didn't start last week, but provided it was not injury-related then it should be beneficial for this week's event which is held in Key Biscayne, Florida ... a very long flight away from Hawaii. He hasn't played in this event until this week, but a year ago he was a regular at Monday qualifying. He finished 2002 with a win (Uniting Fore Care Classic) and eight top-5 finishes from 24 starts. Looks generous odds given his performance last year.

Doug Tewell to win 33/1 e.w. @ SkyBet
Successfully opposed Tewell with Nelson in the matchups last week as his lack of length off the tee was seen to be prohibitive. But Crandon Park is 160 yards shorter than Hualalai and flatter, so it should not be a major problem this week. He has finished in the top-15 in each of his three previous visits and he does tend to play well at the start of the season, so could make a welcome return to the top-5 this week.

I have looked ever nook and cranny on Morris and have found squat on why he withdrew Stan.

Will get in an E/W @ 365 for 1 unit total while I wait to see if any place wagers available at all.

Quig @ 20/1 E/W

The ole iron horse of I don't know how many consecutive events always starts golf season with renewed vigor.
Including 1st 4 events of past 3 years and 1st event this year has finished in top 5 over 50% (7 of 13) and just missing with a 6th and 7th place. Hoping that continues.

I know the feeling Steve. When Morris was scratched I added him last week @ 365 but didn't bother to post it. It is uncanny how posting an outright seems to be KOD.

Matchup plays (1 unit):

Bruce Fleisher to beat Tom Kite -108 @ Five Dimes
I don't see Kite as the favourite in this match. Three top-10s in three starts in this event is impressive, but it doesn't match up to two wins and a runners-up spot in four starts for Fleisher. He also finished behind Fleisher last week and trails 8-12-1 in h2h matchups over the past year. Will bite for a small play at this price.

Morris Hatalsky to beat Tom Purtzer -128 @ Five Dimes
Top-10 finish last year for Purtzer and he may well repeat the feat, but siding again with the outright selection who is tipped for an excellent week. There were few who were more consistent than The Cat - which might get a little confusing when Eduardo Romero joins the Tour next year! - and that makes him an ideal candidate for match bets.

Jim Thorpe to beat John Jacobs -130 @ Five Dimes
Opposing the defending champion who won in faltering fashion in last year's rain-shortened event. It was a great start to the year for Jacobs who had finished 2nd the previous week, but his form faltered dramatically in the second half of 2002. In his last 11 starts, his best finish, bar a top-10 spot in the Uniting Fore Care Classic, was 40th. Admittedly, he did two shots finish ahead of Thorpe last week, but I do expect that to be reversed this week as they return to Crandon Park.

A couple of questions for the experienced players. Stanley in your writup about Nelson you stated how he finished in the top 10 of four important categories last week so there are no fears about the state of his game. My question is-is this a good indicator of good things to come, or depending on the player will this vary wildly from week to week? Also the fact that his stats were so good but he did not win- can this sometimes mean that in spite of himself, did he choke just enough to lose? Also am wondering what the head-to-head records mean. Is this only when they are actually playing in the same group or is it if both players are playing in the same tournament? Also are these records for each round or for the overall tourney? Thanks.

Well its Friday and still no place only wagers available at any of my outs as 5dimes,Sia or Gamebookers appear to have all opted out this week. So will add another E/W who was selection last week but did not start. As with Stan I like his top 5 in 33% of events played last year especially at these odds again.

Haltalski 25/1 E/W @ 365

Note: His odds at 365 this morning are 16/1 however I took him when their lines were 1st dropped and here is ticket as I wouldn't want anyone to think I was fudging on line;)

Sports student,

Different courses do test different parts of your game, but I think as a general rule, if someone is playing well in all departments of their game they will be(come) very consistent. A year ago, I raised my concerns about Olazabal's game because the stats did not justify his scores. He was scoring much better than he was playing. His game eventually disappeared as failure in one department puts pressure on the rest and eventually it will implode or you improve your game stats.

I therefore see his stats from last week's events as being supportive of a good week this week. He may not have won - he had a chance to force a playoff on the last hole - but he played well and should retain confidence in his game this week.

The h2h records are how a player has performed against another when they have both played in the same tournament. There is no requirement that they played in the same group or whatever, simply whoever finished ahead of the other in each tournament in the past 3 months, 1 year, 3 years or last 5 years on the course being used that week.

I think it helps ;)

The key with Nelson is the state of his back, which has caused him to withdraw from quite a few events in the past couple of years...hopefully he'll be ok this week, but certainly will not side with him next week as he has stated in the past that he does not like to play for too many weeks in a row.

an odd way to get DQ'd

Following his round, Zoeller hit several shots on the sixth hole while demonstrating the proper swing technique to a local television personality. Under the Rules of Golf, when two or more rounds of a stroke competition are to be played over consecutive days, a competitor shall not practice between those rounds on any competition course remaining to be played

taking a shot at 2nd rd here
Hall -115 over Davis

Hall won battle of the shortened 2 rds event played last year by 12 strokes
Davis did win yesterdays rd over Hall by one shot but had to lead field in GIR's with 89% vs 53% for Hall, for the 1 stroke advantage and that will be hard to repeat.

Never had any handle on this event. Fleisher did lead Kite for most of the tournament, but couldn't even gain a unit on this play. Good job, it's only half stakes at this stage of the season!

Was going to try this tour full time but have decided to just play sparing from here on if at all. Two reasons, did not have success when I could view tourneys and them going to golf channel prohibits any viewing on my part and when we got the best beard cappers availabe posting here I can't see me cluttering this thread with sub-par selections.
