Texas -22 over Sam Houston ****
I have always said Texas doesn't get much home court advantage playing at the Erwin center. I know they practice there which does give them some advantage but there really is no student body involvement or intimidation .Sometimes the noise level gives them some home court but the seats are to far from the court to rattle their opponents. Again a good point gd from the opposing team negates any intimidation esp at the Erwin center. And in the Big 12 everyone has good point gds. Beard the Texas coach who graduated from texas was an asst there realized this factor so he scheduled one game tonight at Gregory Gym on campus. Its where the Texas Longhorn Championship Volleyball team play. Its also where they have PE classes during the day. Tonight only students are allowed in .My season pass is not valid tonight. Beard wants to get the Texas student body involved in backing Texas basketball. So tonight Texas takes on Sam Houston in Gregory Gym on campus with only students allowed in. The 1st game in Gregory Gyn was in 1934 with Texas beating North Texas St 34-33. I had the under and lost because the under was 55 points back then lol Think Beard realizes after being a student and coach at UT that he is reaching out to the student body . Not sure if he did this at Texas Tech but I think its brilliant. Next year the Erwn Center is moving across the street to a new stadium being built .The new stadium has its seats closer to the court and a little smaller and more conducive to home court advantages
Maybe if this works out tonight next year they play Kansas at Gregory Doubt it because of $. Beard was quoted the other day " its going to be more like Hoosiers tonight " He has his players marching on campus tonight walking to the gym as students cheer them on. Think 1st 2,000 students get free throwback T-shirts.
anyway about the game Texas is playing " suffocating defense".. Holding teams to 55 pts or under. a game. They have Carr who at 6'3 can shoot,penetrate and pass Ramey the 2 gd is really another point gd. Febres the other gd is a 6'5 shooter. Inside they have Allen and Mitchell both transfers that can score and play D. They have so much depth on the bench that foul trouble doesn't hurt them . Think with its pressure defense they get a lot of fast break points tonight.
Sam has Tex AM star Flagg a 6'7 scorer and re bounder. Sam played well vs Smoo and Nebraska and hit 13 tre;s vs Ark LR . But their front line is small and think even though Texas doesn't have the interior size they had in the past they still will dominate. Think if Texas can slow down Flagg Texas has to much speed and athleticm and will get a lot of fast break points . hate the -22 points because of back door but think Beard wants to show the Texas student body he is for real and his team is and he is a longhorn .. I went to a volleyball game there at Gregory. and hope they repaint the volleyball lines for tonight.
And playing in front of a packed 4,500 student body crowd gives them a huge home court advantage
Texas wins big, with students behind them and Carr and Ramey attacking and playing pressure defense

Cornell +4.5 over Canisius **
UCSB -12 over UTA **
Wyoming -4.5 over cal Fullerton **
