A match-up of the best and worst teams in the NL West tonight and we'll go with the San Francisco Giants on the -1.5 run-line.

These teams have met 25 times at Pac Bell Park the last three seasons and the Giants have owned the Padres going 20-5 (+11.1 units).

This season San Francisco are 90-57 (.612) overall and a dominating 51-22 (.699) at Pac Bell Park. They have dominated their division rivals going 45-20 (+20 units).

The Giants are 16-8 this season when Kirk Reuter gets the ball and the lefty appears to be back close to his best following an injury-interrupted season. Reuter is 8-2 lifetime against the Padres and the Giants are 16-3 (+12.2 units) in these starts.

San Diego are the cellar-dwellers of the NL West with a 59-89 (.399) record overall. That record gets worse on the road at just 27-47 (.365) and to make matters worse for their backers tonight they are just 10-20 (.333) this season when Brian Lawrence heads to the hill. Only one pitcher in the National League has lost more games this season than Lawrence and it's unlikely he will have much confidence heading into tonight's game as in his last outing he was shelled at home by these Giants. He allowed five runs on nine hits in six innings and remarked after the loss that "They are definitely the team no matter what we do," Lawrence said. "We can't beat them." The Padres are 0-5 when Lawrence starts against the Giants while personally he is 0-3 with an ERA of 3.98.

The Padres have dropped 7 of their last 9 and have been outscored 45 runs to just 26 during this stretch.

We strongly believe that the money-line tonight should be closer to -190 rather than -155. But rather than laying the heavy wood we'll go with the Giants at the very tempting +135 to win by at least two runs.

Recommended Play: Giants -1.5 +135
