Pitching at least five innings in 13 consecutive games, Tim Stauffer helped the 2005 Padres win their division, but he's been unable to build on the success.
On Thursday, Stauffer threw 47 pitches in the first inning, allowing seven runs (three earned). Stauffer, drafted fourth overall in 2003, has shown a livelier fastball of late but foes are batting .307 off him.
?His touch, his feel, his command have just been very erratic,? said Grady Fuson, vice president of scouting and development. ?My gut feeling is he's putting a lot of pressure on himself.?
