Outright plays (total stake per play: 2pts)

Tom Kite to win 20/1 e.w. @ BetInternet and Tote
Retaining Kite from last week's selections as even though he wasn't at his best, he still looked set for a top-5 finish until a seven on the 14th hole. He eventually finished one shot out of a top-10 finish and that would have been his eight in a row so he clearly playing better than a standard 20/1 shot on this Tour. And while he had played at last week's course just once previously, finishing 7th, he is the course record holder here at Prestonwood with 61 when finishing 2nd in 2003. Having been 16/1 last week before Roberts and Weibring withdrew, he is certainly better value at these odds this week.

Craig Stadler to win 33/1 e.w. @ William Hill
Did closely consider retaining Bryant as a selection this week at 14/1 (best price of 12/1 last week), but 33/1 is such a stand-out price, Stadler is worth a shot instead at this price. His course form figures of 8th, 1st (wire-to-wire) and 4th are difficult to ignore and he showed more than just a few glimpses of his best form last week. After 13 holes of his first round, he was almost last, but birdied four of the last hole to shoot under-par and even though he was 37th after two rounds, he was 7-under-par for the first eight holes on Sunday to get within two shots of Andy Bean. He would be over-par on the back nine and fall out of contention, but it would have been very encouraging ahead of this event and a return to a course on which he has played so well in the past.

R.W. Eaks to win 40/1 e.w. available generally
Surprisingly large odds on Eaks given his performances in the last month and last year. His last three finishes have been 11th, 7th and then 2nd last week and that was on a course on which his previous best finish had been 33rd. His form has been so good that each of his last ten rounds have been 70 or less. And then there is last year ... he was making his debut on the course, but still held the sole lead heading into the final round. He had never won on the Champions or PGA Tour (but won three Nationwide Tour titles) and had a best-finish of 6th on this Tour at the time, so it was always going to be a nervy final round and so it was: he started with a double-bogey six and shot 42 on the front nine. He would be two-under-par for the back nine and still finish in the top-10, but not win. However, he was now had two runners-up finishes this season alone and is much better prepared if he were to enter the final round in the lead again.

Matchup plays (2pts unless stated):

Chip Beck to beat Scott Hoch -118 @ Centrebet [4pts]
Opposing Hoch in a big way this week. He finally made his Champions Tour debut last month after virtually two years on the sidelines with various injuries, but the latest, his wrist, is still at only 70% strength. It remained such a concern that his surgeon was at the course every day during the Constellation Energy Classic. He finished 27th, hitting his drives a mere 237 yards on average. He will find it much more difficult to drive so weakly around the 7,137-yard Prestonwood Country Club. In fact, the primary reason that he plays again after taking the last two weeks ago is that he is a North Carolina native and still has family in Raleigh. He has stated that he is targeting January as the time when he will be able to play competitively on this Tour, so is very easy to oppose in the meantime. And particularly so in this match against a player who has finished in the top-5 in both his Champions Tour starts.

David Edwards to beat Scott Hoch -125 @ The Greek [6pts]
Edwards actually finished one shot behind Hoch in Baltimore, but that was very much the exception with Edwards. He has finished in a lower position only once in his 16 starts as a senior and has been such a model of consistency that he ranks 4th on the Champions Tour in Scoring Average. Hoch should need to finish in top-15 to have any chance of beating Edwards.

Don Pooley to beat Scott Hoch -103 @ Pinnacle [6pts]
With a record of four top-20 finishes in five years at Prestonwood and finishes of 3rd, 9th and 2nd in three of his last four events, Pooley should have more than enough to finish comfortably ahead of Hoch, just as he did by seven shots in Baltimore.

Brad Bryant to beat Tom Kite -110 @ The Greek
Did consider Bryant for the outrights, but his best-price of 14/1 was not as much value at 33/1 with Stadler and, given that Kite was 20/1, it is clear who the bookies thought had the better chance of winning this week. Also in Bryant's favour is the fact that he has finished ahead of Kite in eight of their last nine common events, so 20/1 may be a very good price for Kite in the outrights, but I'd back Bryant at this price in a matchup.

Let me add another vs Hoch--and line hasn't moved in 2 days.

J Ozaki -112 over Hoch @ Expekt

My notes on Hoch- loves hot weather- does not like cold--highball hitter does not play well in wind.

Per Stan notes on injury--cold rainy weather generally has negative effect of bone/joint injuries.

Would not surprise me if he WD's prior to teeing off today.

Outrights - FINAL RESULT: 0-3; -6.00pts

Kite 34th
Stadler 47th
Eaks 72nd

The fact that this event ended a round early made no difference for the outrights which were desperately poor. The winner, Tom Jenkins, had been considered at 33/1 because of his course form so yet another winner was left on the cutting room floor.

Matchups - FINAL RESULT: 2-2; -7.68pts

Beck/Hoch WON by 5
Edwards/Hoch LOST by 3
Pooley/Hoch LOST by 10
Bryant/Kite WON by 6

The cold, wet weather really should have helped the big plays against Hoch and in the end it denied us an opportunity to claw some profit from this event as it caused the cancellation of the final round. Very disappointing, though Edwards and Pooley should never have been trailing Hoch in the first place.

Champions Tour ytd
Outrights: 13-53; -22.59pts
Matchups: 30-30; -23.84pts

"Despite relatively clear skies in the morning, the ground at Prestonwood Country Club was too wet to play on following half an inch of overnight rain"

You got to be shitting me--total rainfall for entire month of oct after last night 1.31 inches and too wet to play--I got to be missing something here.
