3-1 +2.9units

Texas Tech -2.5 4units

First big play of the season. I thought I could wait but this game opened at pickem and moved up quickly. I'll give more thought on this later but I really like Tech in this spot.

pel, it's going to hit. They've been preparing for this game for too long. I think the key match up with our offense vs. their D will be Jace Amaro. One of their LBs is going to have to cover him and I just don't think they can do it. Tech has taken this passing offense vertical for the first time in a long time. That should open up things underneath for Amaro. This offense is unlike any Tech has ever had. They're 9 deep at WR with a great combination of size and speed. Add to that a great TE and a running game that has looked very good so far and you have an offense that is complete. The OL at times is questionable but so far they've held up. I don't see State putting pressure on them with their D linemen and if they bring extra to get pressure they'll get burned.

The running game has done well because they have some good RBs but just as important they have some WRs that have attitude and like blocking for the running game. That's made a big difference from the Leach days.

Doege is having a good year and I would expect him to have a great game. Most that don't know the Tech program don't know his story but last year was his first year to play in 4 years. He was a backup during his first few years at Tech and he was injured his last two years in high school. So before last year he hadn't really played since his sophmore year in high school. He's a smart qb with a very accurate arm. He doesn't have a BIG arm but can stretch the field enough to take advantage of his speed on the outside. IMO last year you could see his arm get fatigued. He didn't have zip on his throws half way thru the year.

The defense for Tech is nothing like any they've had in forever. Tubs has brought in the Jimmy Johnson way and moved speed on to the field. He has safeteys playing LB and LBs play DE. He has a DE from last year playing dline. What you get from that is speed. The top two CBs are very good cover guys. Cody Davis at safety is a 4 year starter and seems to be in on every play. The biggest addition is Will Smith at LB. He's a juco guy that has a nose for the ball and is always in on the play. He's fast and very physical. Tech is young in it's defensive front but they have a lot of experience from playing last year and it shows. They're gang tackling and being physical. For the last 10 years the only thing I can remember yelling when Tech was on D is "please wrap him up." They tackle well now which has made a big difference.

I know Tech can lose this game and I can lose this wager but the players have been wanting to play this game all summer. It's the game they've prepared for starting in spring practice.

Update 4-1 6.9 units

It took a while for Tech to get going on O but they didn't do too bad of a job. The D played unbelievably well. They only gave up one score and really it was the only drive ISU had all night. I'm very impressed with the run D for Tech. I'm still worried about the passing D but we'll get to test that over the next three weeks.
