Tournament directors already knew their tournament was in trouble when Tsonga pulled out. The "match the world wanted to see" between joker and Tsonga in the finals was derailed by a fire hydrant. Instead of cancelling the tournament, they continued on for the fans who have been treated to a second tier product. Nonetheless, the next best match for the finals they could come up with is joker/fed playing and the winner being world no 1 going into the us open. Granted, it's not nearly as good as tsonga would have been for ratings, but it's the best they could do in a very tough spot.
