does anyone know why on earth none of the games this weekend are being played on saturday? with college over, what else could the networks have scheduled....LOL

and if i'm not mistaken, there should have been 2 games tomorrow, since it was initially scheduled as a playoff weekend.

Just a guess....

The contracts between the NFL and the TV networks specify a certain # of Saturday games each year, to be televised nationally, and those games were already scheduled for the weeks that just went by. Since this was originally Week 2's card, there were no Saturday games planned for it.

If the networks wanted to show a couple games on Saturday instead, the NFL would probably want more rights money, since obviously any game with a national audience (even if it's on a Saturday) would draw higher ratings than a Sunday afternoon game. So I'd guess that the NFL offered them the option, but the networks decided against it.

I agree 100%. I went to check to see what were going to be tomorrow's games and, of course, it was none of them. Tomorrow has become the "errand and get everything done day".

what i have always wondered is why the NFL does not show 2 double headers every Sunday.....seems that they only do this because of tradition and I would think it would generated more revenue if they did....granted the ratings in the uncontested double header would drop but the viewership as a whole woudl increase.....many times i do not watch if it is a bad matchup and only one game is on....if two were on i would be more inclined to watch at least one of them....

NFL needs to think about doing that as well as being a little more flexible with television schedules....especially as you said, this Saturday.....losing lots of money by not broadcasting in these two ways..

These games are being played as scheduled for Sept 16th. Seems easy to say well lets move one or two to Saturday. I gues it might not be so.

No games tomorrow because it would give an advantage to any playoff team scheduled to play tomorrow. Would provide an extra day of rest.

Actually, they're not being played ~exactly~ as originally scheduled. On the original schedule, the Pitt/Clev game was to be the Sunday nighter, and the Philly/TB game was to be played in the afternoon. So apparently the league or networks were willing to make changes....just not that big a change.
