Yale -11 over Princ **

Davidson -2.5 over St Louie ****

Ga St -1,5 over Tex St ***
Pulling out my notes on this game when I watched Tx St beat Gstate 81-69..it was the famous game when the Panther superstar Simonds called out his asst coach for a throw down..then he sat and sulked...Panthers won the 1st game by 73-69...Pearson and Nottingham are 2 outstanding penetrating gds for the bobcats..only UTA actually stopped them..but Panthers have Simonds who is the best player on the floor then they have 6'4 Mitchell who is deadly..Williams is the other gd who can attack and shoot and Benlevi has NBA range..they have no post attack and that is where Tx St attacked them...Tx defense is much better but think overall Ga St has the better overall team and if Simonds doesn't challenge any of his coaches today think they pull out a win...Kasper is much better as a coach because Hunter just lets his kid shoot and gun...

UTA +4.5 over Ga So ***
UTA has a solid team and plays defense..stopping Tookie is the key but I saw UTA stop the 2 Tx st gds ..think they can neutralize Tookie and either pull out an upset or lose by a few..I said here a month ago the UTA coach awesome..it was just announced he was named Sun Coach of the Year..think Kasper should of really got it at Tx St

WKU -2 over ODU **
KU -1.5 over Iowa St **

Was invited to a D-2 Basketball South Central Regional basketball game yesterday.. St Edwards vs Angelo St at St Eds which is about 5 miles from my house...here in Austin...the game was better then any of the Texas or Texas St games..popcorn and soda was $3.00..the talent level of course wasn't the same as D-1 but there are 3 or 4 players that could of played for D-1 teams...the game was exciting as ever with St Eds August Haas with 6 seconds left dribbling the ball the length of the court hitting a layup off the glass to win the game 82-80...there was .05 seconds left but we have a problem... the head coach who I know from NY and invited me to the game and his asst coach and bench ran on the court to celebrate.. but the buzzer didn't go off.. the clock showed .05..the Angelo St coach is screaming for a Tec..after reviewing it at the table there was time on the clock and a technical was given but they only gave Angelo 1 shot and the ball..thought a bench foul was 2 shots and the ball...so the Angelo kid makes the shot and its 82-81 ..and then they give Angelo the ball not a midcourt but at the further end.. ??? they throw a football pass down and it gets intercepted and the buzzer goes off...St Eds wins...I guess the rules are different in D-2 ..anyway what a great game Edwards plays tonite the winner of Lubbock Christian and Col School of Mines..there nickname is the Orediggers ...its possible my wife might be going out shopping with my daughter-in -law...if thats the case I'm might go see the regional final tonight before I see the divorce papers ..take care..leaving for Vegas on Wed for March Madness..looking forward to 5 days there

Box, do you remember an MLB shortstop for the Astros named Roger Metzger? He's a grad of St. Ed.'s (I'm a friend of his brother). Good luck today and next week in LV!

doglover I do remember him...I was on the St Eds campus a few years back... I know lot of Brothers of Holy Cross from the east coast... the southwest order is now combined with the eastern order... Talked to a Brother Lawrence at the game and he knew about 20 of the brothers I knew ..
But after watching KXAN the other nite there was a story on St Edwards winning 25 games or more and playing in the D-2 nationals when they interviewed the coach Andre C I recognized him.. His was a juco coach in upstate NY and a member of the BCANY coaches ass. He knows many of my friends..I contacted him and we talked .it was great

T its a 1953 Topps Mantle...perfect even cut, mint condition ,no creases...but has one major problem...when I left for college at North Texas I took it with me...put some silly puddy or something so the card will stick to my locker or wall... had it all 4 years in college..go back to NY and put it away...few years later the baseball card industry erupted...I have the 1956 Topps set with Mantle,Aaron Williams,etc..those were the horizontal cards..think the last of horizontal...my Mantle is not mint but very good..anyway getting back to the '53 Mantle took it to a dealer years ago...his eyes lite up when he saw the card...then he turned it over and gasped...looked at me and said I will give you $200 ...told him to take a hike and it sits in a case back in NY...think I lost over $2,000 for the back being destroyed ...there is a big black circle where the writing was ripped out...you can read the stats on the left and right corners though...but I was one of the lucky ones ..many of you guys lost your entire card collection because our mothers cleaned out our closets..I kept my good cards in a shoe box and put about 20 rubber bands around it.. when my mother threw out 1,000 of cards she left my shoe box because of the rubber bands..she must of figured they were important enough for me to protect... so am very lucky ... I had all the 56' super stars cards so over the years completed the set with the commons...and the sad reason why I am Phillie fan...I was a flipper.....in the bronx growing up I could flip cards.. I could flip 100 out of 100 heads or tails..beat anybody in a 4 block area...I was 5 or 6 beating high school kids ...and my favorite cards were the ones with the players with red P's...and I could get a Robin Roberts and 5 other phillies for one Mantle or Berra...and another 5 cards for a Whitey Ford...unfortunately Bekkett didn't exist yet and I traded many expensive Yankee cards for many Phillie commons... so lost a lot of money but what's worse I stayed a Phiilie fan...born on Fordham road in the Bronx, maybe 15 blocks from Yankee Stadium and a father that took me to Yankee games ...Mantle,Maris,Ford,Howard,Kubeck,Richardson are in my backyard and I'm cheering for Bobby Wine,Rueban Amaro, and my all time favorite Phillie Richie Allen I still carry his baseball card in my wallet..

Richie should be in the HOF. Heard players from his era say the ball had a special sound when he hit it. Tuff basketballer also. Sports writers gave him a tough time
