a disappointing 3-5 yesterday as dogs go 0-4. especially miffed at the wolfpack who sleepwalked their way to a 10 point win over the citadel, shooting less than 35% in the process after averaging over 50% in their first four. see a chance to make up sone ground today with a pair of two unit plays:
iona -4-: gaels picked to defend their maac crown this year now undervalued after blowing a big lead against akron and getting surprised by bethune cookman. says coach jeff ruland, "we've been back to basics the last few days. i'm not taking anything for granted." i should hope not.
rhode island's woes last year well documented and don't really look to improve much this year under new leadership. leading returning scorer brian howard was limited to 17 minutes because of bum knees in blowout loss to mediocre virginai tech. also starter troy wiley out because of academic difficulties. look for ruland's boys to get back on track this afternoon.
unc-g -3-: snoozing, here's an undervalued team for you. greensboro off an 19-12 season last year, southern conference champs, ncaa tourney appearance. they got my attention when they came to raleigh last december and nc state barely escaped with a one point win. preseason picks to repeat as conf champs, unc-g deeper and more experienced now and should improve on last year's record.
mtsu 5-22 last year and finished the season with a fifteen game losing streak. local expectations falsely buoyed after 2-0 start that includes rout of cupcake bryan college and come from behind win over iupui without their leading scorer. no homecourt as mocs are thrilled if they put 2000 in the stands, probably much less for this holiday game. unless i'm missing something this line a gift with large talent differential between these two teams.
two units on both games. more regular plays later.
