1-2 last night as the grind of mediocrity continues. some early lookd today:
umass +7-: the game that stands out to me the most today is my wolfpack laying 7- to umass. this line bafffles me as i see the game as a pick or maybe state -1 at best. after opening the season shooting over 50% against four patsies, wolfpacks shooting woes have reappeared against credible defense. against citadel zone, state could manage only 35% in 10 point win. against buckeyes, pack bricked it at around 27%. last year state's shooting woes were persistent, but that was with habitual brick-layers inge and thorton in the lineup. still, the reemergence of the problem is bound to affect the psyche and confidence of this young wolfpack team. hard to imagine that shooting will improve against tough d of steve lappas' minutemen who have started off 3-0 and off upset of oregon. none of umass three opponents thus far have managed over 36% shooting from the floor. state is still primarily a young team that is still searching a bit for proven and consistent leadership, just don't see them putting umass out of the endgaame.
boston college -4: gonna take a chance that michgan just can't hang with bc speed.
rhode island +18: battle of rhode island takes on new dimension after brown upset of friars. no practice for prov on thursday, instead they spent hours in team meeting where players were not permitted to speak watching and rewatching film of brown loss and getting blistered by coach. that must have been fun film to view as friars shot 36% and had 31 to's in that debacle. rhode island off three wins in a row can't really match friars talent but play scrappy and hustle for every rebound and loose ball. rhode island is actually designated home team for this game in keating gym. ticket sales have been indifferent. no way ri beats prov here but with situation as it is i think they stay within reach till the end here.
