YTD: 6-0
PICK: Northeastern +6
Northeastern comes into this game 1-4, but is coming in off a win vs mutual opponent BU: Northeastern beat BU 73-54, while Rider just beat them 66-60. Northeastern opened with a BRUTAL 4 game in 5 day road trip with games against Syracuse, Pitt, Oakland and UMass. Northeastern is a young team with a new coach and starts two freshmen; I can't imagine how nervous those kids must have been to start their college careers at SYR and PIT. Freshman Matt Janning has established himself as the #2 scorer on the team at 12ppg and the other frosh Manny Adako at 6'8", 240 is a big boy underneath.
And their schedule doesn't get any easier: in the next month they play on the road vs UConn, Detroit, Louisville and BC. If they are going to win 10 games, they have to win games like this one.
Rider comes into this game at 3-1 with victories over div 3 Wilkes, BU and Delaware and a loss to NJIT. This game is Rider's home opener; they are usually winners in Alumni Gym but I'm hoping that with many of the students home for the holidays that the home crowd is a little less imposing on Sat afternoon.
Northeastern is a young team but they shoot the ball well, especially from the arc, and I think that their tough early schedule has given them the seasoning to keep this one close.
I also like that 72% of the public is on Rider!
good luck.
