Fletch may I introduce myself. My name is Gareth..I live in Wales (UK), and work for William Hill over here in the UK. I post mianly in this section on rugby and have done so successfully, but often there is little interest on UK sports. Would like to thank you for all your hard work on MLB NFL etc as I am one who always looks out for your posts.

I would be interested to hear what you know about a World Super Middleweight Chmpion by the name of Joe Calzaghe. He lives in the same town as me here in Wales, and I know him personally. He started by beating Chris Eubank, and has since made eleven successful defences of his belt, including beating some of the better US middleweights including Omar Sheika (RD 5), Charles Brewer (Pts). His ambition is to beat Bernard Hopkins, and then step up a weight and face his dream fight in Roy Jones Jr.

He is very under rated even here in the UK, and is the type of fighter who could walk down a busy street going unnoticed. This is mainly due to his Welsh upbringing and the fact that he is a rather withdrawn character, while people like Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn are national celebrities in our country. I was just interested on how much US boxing knows about him. He is signed to Showtime Network over there.

Look forward to reading your comments!

if i may jump in...thanks..i am a huge boxing fan and did a little of it in the states under the p.a.l. (police athletic league)program in my youth....doesn`t make me an expert, but i follow boxing closer than anything else....i have seen calzaghe several times on t v and have followed his career from afar...i happen to think he is one of the more talented fighters that doesn`t get international attention comensurate with his ability...he would be a somewhat dangerous guy for a bernard hopkins to get involved with...he is naturally bigger, left handed and has surprising hand speed for a white guy(i`m a white guy myself,no insult intended)....i would like to see him fight a couple lesser fights in the states to maximize his marketability...he`s an extremely confident guy at his peak right now...hopkins is around 37 years old...he is a fantastic boxer puncher, but,at 37 you tend to hit the wall suddenly...one fight you have it,one fight you don`t...calzaghe is a very clever, difficult guy to fight(unlike a trinidad who basically was used to walking down, and through his opposition)....calzaghe would be a difficult fight for hopkins and with some odds involved at a neutral site,i`d take a hard look at joe...roy jones, unfortunately,is on a different planet raw talent and skill wise...probably has never been a more fantastic athlete to lace on the gloves....but,you absoliutely have a keeper in calzaghe....tall,talented,cocky,tough,southpaw....he s the goods.....g.l.`

Good comments Garden.....you are spot on with your assessment. Roy Jones Jr is an unbelievable talent....it would be a massive fight for Calzaghe and a credit to what he has done so far in his career that he would be able to step into the ring with Joe. :)
