We had a nice day yesterday in the Ivy but please remember there are no guarantees that tonight's card will be as successful.
Two Stars
Brown -5.5
IMO Brown is the second best team in the Ivy behind Penn. This Columbia team has never played that well on the road and last night vs Yale was no exception. After starting the year 6-2, Columbia has fallen on hard times in terms of their shooting. Until they can prove they can hit some baskets I'm going against them, especially on the road.
Penn -5.5
Last night's easy win over Dartmouth was a warm-up for the Quaker's visit to Harvard. Harvard lost by two when the Crimson's Merchant missed a lay-up in the final seconds to tie the game vs Princeton. Harvard is coming off a tough full 40 minute effort just 24 hours ago, while the better conditioned Penn team, which shot great last night , is better rested. Penn was up by 19 at the half so a lot of their players got to sit early. Penn is #55 RPI and is by far the best team in the Ivy. They played a very tough non-conference schedule with several upset victories so playing back-to-back games on the road isn't going to be a problem for the Quakers.
One Star
Yale -11.5
Yale was lucky to get the win last night vs Columbia, both teams shot poorly. Yale was coming into the game just off their big upset win at Clemson and may have been reading a few too many of their own press clippings. I think they'll come off that poor performance by trouncing Cornell tonight. Yale can score a lot of points so 11.5 shouldn't be too many to cover.
One Half Star
Dartmouth +9.5
I hate taking Dartmouth after my big loss on them earlier this year. I think Princeton should win this game straight up but they may not cover. Princeton came into this weekend 4-7, I'm sure they just want to get back on the bus to NJ with a 2-0 Ivy League record. Princeton's starting forward Andre Logan (2nd leading scorer at 9.3 ppg) injured his knee last night and will not play tonight. IMO with Princeton's tough game last night vs Harvard, the loss of a key scorer, and their style of offense which results in low-scoring contests, 9.5 may be too many points to ask the Tigers to cover. Especially on the road against a poorer team they have no real motivation to blow out.
