Traschel coming off a complete game 1 hitter. But, he only threw 103 pitches in those 9 innings. 11.4 pitches per inning average.
Mets are 13-13 in all games started by Steve. He is a better pitcher than most people realize. He is 8-2 in last 10 road starts, I think.The negative here in this game is that after a similar game vs the Angels, the Mets and Traschel came back to lose 0-5 in his next start.

Here is what I like in this game. LAD a very low scoring team, which gives most teams a shot to begin with. Ashby has appeared in 18 games this season, LAD are 3-15 when he appears. I can not visualize Ashby being favored over anyone.

Mets are 7-3 last 10 games. Those 3 losses were all by 1 run. Doesn't look like they have quit. In their last 14 road games they are 6-8, still trying. Still playing to try and win.

Dodgers righthander Andy Ashby (3-9, 5.20 ERA) takes the mound for the first time in over two weeks after missing his last turn with flu-like symptons.

Ashby snapped a personal five-game losing streak in his last start, when he gave up one run and three hits in five innings of a 3-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on August 8.

The veteran righthander is 8-8 with a 3.37 ERA in 25 career appearances vs. the Mets.





Steve Trachsel (12-7, 4.20 ERA) comes off the 25th one-hitter in franchise history for the Mets. In Monday's 8-0 win over Colorado, he retired the first 17 batters before opposing starter Chin-hui Tsao doubled over center fielder Timo Perez's head.

He struck out three without a walk in his second one-hitter of the season. He also had one June 15 at Anaheim and has won nine of 12 decisions since.

The veteran righthander is 3-8 with a 4.03 ERA in 18 career appearances vs. Los Angeles.

New York starters are 7-1 with a 2.04 ERA in the last 10 games, but the Mets have dropped three of four to start their nine-game road trip.

Al Leiter gave up two runs in six innings Friday, but was the losing pitcher as the Mets fell 2-1 in the opener of this three-game series. New York has managed just four runs in its three losses on the trip.

Mets catcher Mike Piazza struggled against his former team Friday. He struck out in his first two at-bats, then grounded into consecutive double plays, including one with the tying run on in the eighth inning.

The Mets won't need many runs Saturday if Trachsel continues to pitch as well as he has this month.

Trachsel fired his second one-hitter of the year Monday in an 8-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies. He has won three straight starts and is 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA in four starts this month.

The Dodgers also have received exceptional pitching of late. Los Angeles has won three straight, allowing one run in each game, and five of six.

Los Angeles has climbed within three games of wild card leader Philadelphia. The Dodgers have won 13 of 18 overall and nine of their last 11 at home.
