ED/NAS
Between the posts: Tommy Salo will get the start for Edmonton while Mike Dunham is expected to start for Nashville.

defenceman Jason Smith missed the last two games with lower back pain and is questionable for tonight. (oilers desperately missed him last night--poti looked awful)

NY/TOR
Rookie goaltender Dan Blackburn will start for the Rangers against the Leafs' Curtis Joseph reported on SLAM hockey

Mont
To help try and generate some offence, Canadiens coach Michel Therrien will try playing callup Aaron Asham on a top line with Doug Gilmour and Brian Savage. Asham, called up Thursday, is a hard-nosed type whose job will be to go to the net hard.
After using D Stephane Robidas on the wing on the fourth line Wednesday, Therrien will move him back on the blue line for tonight. That could mean less ice time or even a ticket to the press box for Sheldon Souray, who's been struggling this season...LW Oleg Petrov will play with Shaun Van Allen and Andreas Dackell on the Habs defensive line...

OTTAWA....
Jacques Martin is going with goalie Jani Hurmi, who is 4-0-0 in his career against Tampa and shut the Bolts out twice in three tries last season
The Senators continue to struggle with the man-advantage, ranking 18th overall and 28th with the power play on home ice. Martin said this morning there's a good chance he will use 6-foot-9, 255-pound D Zdeno Chara as a forward in such situations.
Tampa.......
Holzinger did not accompany the team on the trip because his shoulder injury has flared up again.

fla....
Viktor Kozlov suffered a hip injury in practice Thursday and didn't practice Friday, leaving him questionable for tonight's game against the Southeast Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes.

Tonight will mark the last game of center Jason Wiemer's seven-game suspension for high-sticking Toronto's Darcy Tucker. Center Ryan Johnson tried to skate on his left foot, broken two weeks ago against New Jersey, but hasn't been able to put all his weight on it.

The Panthers have no extra forwards, and defenseman Dan Boyle practiced as one Friday. If Kozlov can't play, Boyle, defenseman Paul Laus or defenseman Lance Ward will move to forward. All have played forward in the NHL at some point. If Kozlov can't play, Olli Jokinen likely will move up to the first line to center Kristian Huselius and Ivan Novoseltsev. Huselius has three goals in the past two games, and Kozlov has assisted on each.

Marcus Nilson likely would move from right wing to center on the second line with Niklas Hagman and Denis Shvidki.

CAR.....
Unhappy with the Hurricanes' string of poor performances, general manager Jim Rutherford indicates a change in coaches may be needed to inspire the team.

CAL...
The Calgary Flames have recalled forward Jukka Hentunen and goaltender Kay Whitmore from the Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League.

boston......
it appears doubtful either Samsonov or Gill will be back tonight when the Buffalo Sabres visit the FleetCenter.
Both players skated briefly before the team's workout at the Ristuccia Center, but coach Robbie Ftorek seems inclined to have them wait until at least next week.Stock is pretty close to returning from a high ankle sprain, but Ftorek said they're erring on the side of caution because of how tricky those types of injuries can be.

Pit...........
The Penguins remain last in the NHL on the power play, having converted nine of 114 opportunities with the man-advantage (7.9 percent).RW Alexei Kovalev, D Josef Melichar and RW Aleksey Morozov, all of whom are playing with minor injuries, were held out of yesterday's workout at Southpointe, but Coach Rick Kehoe said he expects all to be available for the Penguins' game against Atlanta tonight. Kehoe said rookie C Kris Beech, a healthy scratch for the Penguins' 4-1 victory in Boston Thursday, likely will return to the lineup tonight
