Outright plays (1.5 units):

Adam Scott to win 14/1 e.w. @ Tote
Not too keen on the price, but this is a field of people always seem to get out of the way on Sundays. With two European Tour titles to his name and strong showings in his last two events, Scott does look the class player in this field. The main concern would be a letdown from last week's top-25 finish in the PGA Championship. He may suffer from a little fatigue from that event and an inability to lift himself for this 3rd tier event. But if he's in contention on Sunday, he should have plenty of assistance.

Gary Evans to win 22/1 e.w. @ Sportingbet or Heathorns
Virtually an automatic selection this week. Top-10 finishes in each of his last three events, including the British Open, he is playing as well as anyone in this field. He also has some good finishes on this course - 8th in 1993; 11th in 1999 and he was the leader after two rounds last year before a 3rd round 77 took him out of contention. He came back strongly in the final round to finish 4th and looks set for another high finish this week.

John Bickerton to win 66/1 e.w. @ Surrey
Looking for a place win here as I can't see his nerve standing up to leading the event. Was always a distant 2nd to Paul Lawrie in the Wales Open, but it represented his best finish since the 2001 Madeira Island Open, where he is the course specialist, and it was his fourth top-20 finish in his last ten starts. There are many other players in this field who consistently finish in the top-30, but at least Bickerton does finish in the top-5 a little more regularly on this Tour.

Evans 30/1 Centrebet. Excellent current form and a solid course record make him an obvious pick.

Donaldson 80/1 Ladbrokes. Had a top 30 finish here last year and has played well recently.

Bjornstad 125/1 Chandler. 3rd on his last start in the Scandinavian Masters. Has a top 20 finish in this event. 125/1 seems big in a mediocre field.

Gary Evans was 25/1 V Chandler now 22/1 Heathorns
After his heroic BritishOpen 5th has followed that up with 10th Dutch & 6th Scandanavian. These follow 2 x 5th places in Dubai & British Masters. Add this to his 4th place here last year and 11th in 1999 and he looks worth a bet.

Avoiding Poulter after 2 recent 6ths... could make his day!!!

Corals wimped out on Bjornstadt...asked them to post on web so I could place 1ew(did not want to worry them)..they advised he was 50/1 now..so placed '1' ew to Chandler at 125/1....

There's nothing about the Scottish PGA on Bjornstad's website but I'm sure he's confident. He was very happy with his game in Sweden and rated the 3rd place finish as his best performance ever. I know he wants to finish in the top 50 of the Order of Merit so he can play at Valderrama.

Well I hope Evans shoots a low 1st round score - I would then be more than happy to lay him at very short odds - if he hasn't done it in 286 starts I see no reason why he should do it this week - + he does have the forum kiss of death!

Scott 12/1 @ Spodds 1.5 Units ew.
What a crap price. Loved the 66/1 I got on Casey last yr. Just feel Scott can take a lot of confidence from blowing a terrible field apart in Qatar. Plus Sportinglife can laugh themselves stupid with the headlines when he wins.

Mid-point update:

Evans/Bennett Trails by 3
Evans/Coltart Leads by 1
Evans/Poulter WON by 2
Kjeldsen/Wall LOST by 7
Wessels/Maritz LOST by 4
Scott/Poulter WON by 16

Scott 1st
Evans 56th
Bickerton 68th

Great round by Scott in worst of the conditions. Only two other players shot under 70 this morning and he deserves to win this event after his 65. He has a four-shot lead and there are not too many winners on this Tour in the chasing pack. The cut line edged up to +3 which meant Bickerton just made the weekend - horrid 2nd round and he had been 3rd after 17 holes yesterday - but also that Coltart stayed alive in the main matchup play. Should be a very good event, but it will be a long weekend.

was Donaldson a non-runner? I saw him as withdrawn on teletext, and he does not show at bottom of round one scoring as retired...could do with money back, as also have him in double with Allenby!

Monarch,
The "crap price" doesn't look too bad today!

Had a bit of fun with your man... got home Friday lunchtime and saw several bet fair requests for him at odds on... which seemed poor value with him not even finished his 2nd round and 1/2 the field still to start theirs... so I started laying him until I had ?500 in the hold (liability ?430 average 1.86)... was disappointed when no one closed on his lead Friday pm!! Followed the quotes yesterday and thanks to that fantastic chap R Russell managed to get out of it at just the right moment 1.98 & 1.94... I'm levels you devils if he wins.... but a ?50 profit if he... no... it's unmentionable.... I'm just glad to escape that one.
