In handicapping this Denver team, the first rule of order is to put tape over their name. They are no longer Denver?s team, as we know it. They are, instead, Peyton?s team. And in glossing over Manning?s career stats I quickly notice his 14-7 ATS career mark as a dog in games off a win, including 10-1 ATS his last eleven games in this role.
On the flip side, Matty Ice has been equally impressive at home for the Falcons, going 26-5 SU and 20-10-1 ATS overall, including 17-3 SU and 14-5-1 ATS when hosting non-division foes. What I don?t dig about the Dirty Birds is their failure to perform under the Monday Night lights where they are 5-18 SU and ATS since 1980, including 0-6 SU and 1-5 ATS of late.
New coordinator Mike Nolan has a chance to make a difference, but this group wasn?t stopping the Chiefs last week until they got turnovers on three straight possessions to start the third quarter. You can?t always go in the locker room at halftime and decide that your adjustment will be to get turnovers, and then actually get them. Especially when Peyton Manning is the other team?s quarterback.
