? The Ottawa Senators could be shorthanded when they face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.
Coach Guy Boucher told reporters Thursday morning at the Nationwide Arena there?s a flu running through the team and the Senators may have to call up players from its AHL affiliate in Binghamton to play the Jackets.
It?s a certainty that defencemen Fredrik Claesson will play because one or two blueliners could be out with the illness. There may also be issues up front and the players who are recalled won?t be able to get from Binghamton to Columbus until just before the 7 p.m. start.
The Senators held an optional skate with only Claesson and backup Chris Driedger going on the ice so it?s hard to know which players may be missing
Boucher wasn?t sure what changes need to be made.
?I can?t answer you now. We?ve got some guys who are sick so I don?t know what we?re doing right now,? said Boucher Thursday morning. ?That?s where we?re at. We might bring some guys up.
?I can?t tell you the number because we?re not really sure. Some guys know for sure they have it. Some guys might get it.?
Coming off a 6-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues Tuesday to start this trip, the timing isn?t ideal.
?This isn?t the right time to have these guys with the flu. We?ll see how many can play, how many can?t play and how many guys we?ve got to call up,? Boucher said.
