Mom has decided to move here as she lives 6 hrs away. My sis is not able to take on the demands of caring for Mom as she has taken ill.... My turn is here and Mom is still independent enough as she still drives.....(some), at 79 and does not want to live with anyone yet. I will never let her stay in convt. home as I think that is just wrong. Question?

I realize that Mom needs social interaction and activities to stay vibrant and not bored to death. What suggestions does anyone have with experience in either the professional field or from personal experience ?
I am not on a real tight budget, and I want my Mom to be happy and close so that we can look after her well being. What are key elements in a community I should look for? Thoughts?:0008

Does she have any friends that are still around so she can talk to or do any activities with?

She would have to meet new friends as she is moving 350 miles from her home. That is what scares the be jesus out of me. We will visit daily , yet her grand kids are grown and are scattered and it would be my wife and I as only family.

It's like getting a new start on life well you do have a chore ahead of you. I'm sure there has to be people in your neighborhood that are very friendly and don't mind meeting new folk. If you could introduce your mom to some good people around the area it's a good start.

I have a few in the Neighborhood.....Since she does not want to move in with us, maybe I should find her a small home around here. I was wondering if I should look at a Senior Community, or Condo association ?

Where it is real F ing COLD
Well this is a topic of expertise, worked my entire adult life with seniors and volunteered when I was a child. I would have to know the area to do research. Senior living or retirement communities have changed drastically over the pas few years. Some are nice and some not so nice buy like I said, I would have to research the area to see if you whatcha got, my email address is the same as my handle but add 73@yahoo,

My first advice to anyone with elderly parents is to have lifeline services for at home or apartment, they are easy to install and one can hit the button if they fall, cost is not that bad, can talk em into free installation and pay about 35 to 52 per month and there is a ton of satisfaction.

Some of these retirement communities have it all, some can suck,

When you go to one there will be people sitting around at the front door watching people, talk to them, most will enjoy the company and tell you about the place, on my damn iPhone so I can't write much more
