Purtzer -112 over McNulty
Levi -118 over Torrence

As stated last week continue to be amzed how they make McNulty fav over top rated players-
Purtzer 6 top 10's in 10 events McNulty 1 for 8.

Purtzer ranks in (top 3) (1st in some) in scor ave-all around-driv distance-gir's- birdie leaders
McNulty fails to bust top 10 in any catagory.

Levi /Torrence stats bout as bad.

Outright plays (2pts):

Tom Watson to win 12/1 e.w. @ Bet365 and Paddy Power
Watson's two best performance in the last nine years of the PGA Championship have come on this course. In 1996, he finished only five shots outside the playoff between Mark Brooks and Kenny Perry and in 2000 he finished in the top-10 when there was another playoff, this time between Tiger Woods and Bob May. No-one else in this field can match that form on this course and with him returning to form with a 3rd place finish last week, he looks to have as much of a chance of winning this event as red-hot favourite, Jay Haas. It would also be a fitting tribute to the memory of Bruce Edwards.

Tom Kite to win 25/1 e.w. @ William Hill and Ladbrokes
Kite finished 19th at Valhalla in 2000, which is far more encouraging that the 64th place finishes of Haas and Stadler. Like Watson, he is coming back into form with two top-5 finishes in his last three starts and really should be no more than 20/1 given the other prices.

Larry Nelson to win 33/1 e.w. @ Paddy Power and BlueSq
Not quite so impressive for Nelson at Valhalla. He did make the cut in 1996, but withdrew before the 3rd round, and he did not play in 2000. However, on the basis of current form, he should not be at these odds. He has finished in the top-6 in six of his last eight starts and won his last event, Kinko's Classic, three weeks ago. Available at half these odds, he is certainly value at 33/1.

Just what I was thinking when I saw it

Matchup plays (2pts unless stated):

Carl Mason to beat Terry Gale -135 @ Five Dimes [6pts]
In the battle of the leading players on the European Senior Tour, I'll take Mason every time. Gale failed to finish in the top-60 in his two starts on the Champions Tour in the past year and while he has just finished 2nd in the Jamaica Classic (Mason was 4th), he did have a very good previous record in the Caribbean. Mason won four European Senior Tour events in a row in 2003-04 and has finished ahead of Gale in five of their last six common events. He should finish much higher than a top-60 position.

Bob Gilder to beat John Jacobs -111 @ Stan James
Siding with the player in much better form. Gilder has finished ahead of Jacobs in their last three common events and the PGA Championship setup should help the more accurate player, who has finished in the top-10 in each of the last three years, extend the run to four.

Tom Watson to beat Hale Irwin -120 @ William Hill
Since the start of the year, Irwin has won a title, but has had no other top-5 finishes in nine starts. That is not the form that he needs to be competitive with Watson who also has a good record around this course.
(also available at Five Dimes)

Mark James to beat Sam Torrance -110 @ SkyBet
Opposing Torrance who has just one top-10 from eight starts this year. James has been much consistent with top-20 finishes in every start this year until his last one and looks more capable of finishing in the top-20 this week.

Wayne Levi to beat Sam Torrance -140 @ Five Dimes
Similar story here, though Levi has been much more impressive this year. His worst finish has been 27th - Torrance has finished outside the top-50 in two of eight starts - and he has achieved five top-10 finishes already. Just a different class of player at the moment.

Tom Watson 12-1 at five dimes 2 units win only. See him winning if near the top, has been my favourite golfer for 23 years and really think he wins this.

Jerry Pate 30-1 top five. Seems to hit the ball good every week think this leads to more success on a harder track, like the majors.

appears Purtzer is non-runner as initial outright @ Cbet has been refunded.

Will add Levi in his place @16.50 there along Leitzke @ 6.25 both to place(top 4)

Like better than the 11/1 and 3/1 5dimes has @ top 5.

Outrights - Final update: 1-2; -3.33pts

Watson 4th
Kite 21st
Nelson 57th

Watson did birdie the first two holes of final round to get within a shot of eventual winner, Hale Irwin, but it was more typical of the week that he took SEVEN on the last hole to finish in a three-way tie for 4th place. It meant that five of twelve outright selections had finished in the top-5, but everyone had been a reduced payout because of ties.

Matchups - Final update: 2-3-0; -8.72pts

Mason/Gale LOST by 3
Gilder/Jacobs LOST by 5
Watson/Irwin LOST by 6
James/Torrance WON by 11
Levi/Torrance WON by 8

Poor effort. Really liked the Mason/Gale play and while Gale did struggle and missed the cut, completely overestimated Mason. Only success was opposing Torrance.
