NIT's North Texas vs Texas St ..both teams led their conferences in defense. over-under should be 100 under lol
Will not read or look at anybody's post . Will start a few days of handicapping then peek at the lines. Leaving for Vegas on thur morning, My buddy at North Texas wants me to call the NT coach to get a scouting report on Tex St since I have seen them 10 times and can run his out of bounds and offense .. But cannot since I will be wagering on that game.
Good luck everybody with this march basketball. Its tougher because their are few common opponents. back in a few days .

North Texas -7.-8 or -9 over Tex St ***
Under 120 ******
These are my lines and haven't seen Vegas numbers yet Will see how close I am to them and make my play. If its double digits will lean towards the Bobcats and if the under is below 120 might go with the under. But North Texas is hosting and the NT Gym will be rocking. Even though the court and seats are to far away from the court the crowd noise and NT being familiar with its home court gives it an advantage. Both teams play great defense. Tx St ranks as the best Defensive team in the Sun Conf and North Texas is now the No 1 defensive team in the country{ I think} NT offense avgs 70 pts and is 180th in scoring where Tex St avgs 65 points a game and is 305th . Tex St was beaten badly by LSU,Houston and Vandy way back in non conference games and beat the only common opponent Rice and won 80-69 . NT beat Rice 67-44.
NT plays a much tougher schedule with La Tech UAB,WKU ,Mid Tenn and played and lost to Kansas 71-59.
So you have two teams that their defense generates their wins Both teams have avg post players. NT's Ousmane is a little better then TX st Ceasar though Ceasar has really improved in last 6 or 7 games. Tx St Ashberry is a quick shooting gd that can create his own shot Small is the 6'9 leading scorer who weighs in about 170 pounds. Harrell is the 5-7 pt gd that stirs the straw on this offense. He can shoot, break the press and is a waterbug on the court If open can stick the 3 and never misses a FT.
NT has Perry the juco transfer who can score, pass penetrate and plays tenacious defense. McBride is the other gd who can shoot and also plays shut you down defense. Bell is the leading scorer and at 6'6 plays G/F and is the best Defensive player on the team
and last year in the 1st round of the NCAA's Purdue couldn't stop him as NT upset Purdue in the 1st round. This will be Grant Mccasland the coach last games coaching He will be moving up to power 5 school This was supposed to be a rebuilding year after Hamlet and Simmons graduated. They lost to UAB the other day that denied them the senior prom.
Anyway not sure where I'm going with this game yet. I cannot let my heart steer me in this game and must be objective. North Texas is 12-0 ats on the under in last 12 games so I'm praying the Vegas gods put the under at +120,+122 Will come back later this afternoon and see what the line is . This is how I handicapp games I make my own lines and then see what they really are. I lost the 10 team parlay with VT over Duke and that was a money line play All duke had to do was win the freak'in game
I did 3 games last night
Kentucky -20 over Peter and Florida -10 over Iona and the NIT game Under Tex -North Tex under 119-121 and North Texas -8 over Tex st. Back later to see how far off I am

OK peeked and saw the lines
No huge advantage .
North Texas -9 over Tex St ***
Under 118 ***
If it was double digits would flip this play . Just think NT shuts down Harrell and that closes the door for the Bobcats. No real threat inside . Bell and McBride will gd Small and Ashburry. NT at home plays not just plays outstanding defense but spectacular D. Bobcats defense I think will have trouble with Perry . NT does not shoot Ft's very well but you really have 2 similar defensive teams with avg offenses going head to head. Tex st on the road lost to Ark St by 7 and 12 to UTA .
Again NT beat Rice 2 times 75-43 and 67-44. Txst beat Rice 80-69 and shot 22-24 from the FT line . Hard to compare common opponents esp when it was way back in the season.
NT wins by double digits and the game goes under

thanks Destructor the game isn't televised here in Austin so disappointed . My two good friends have a ticket for me but if I wasn't leaving for Vegas on thurs morning would drive up to Denton today. And sitting at the game. I would be cheering for both teams. Even though I graduated from North Texas and wear my Mean Green hat and sweatshirt all the time I have watched Tex St the past 4-5 years and senior night a few weeks ago really felt sad watching these kids that I have seen since they arrived playing in their last game.
Tx st was coached by Danny Kasper a North Tex graduate before being fired last year for his racist comments But you can see his coaching especially defensive philosophy and his recruiting players all currently on the the team tonight. Is is mind boggling that as great a coach he was he thought he could get away with what he said . After a long investigation and every player reporting what he said he should of been fired. It was not one comment or incident but a few seasons of them . He sealed his unemployment in coaching basketball forever. He coached with an iron fist and after watching him, his players feared him a la Bobby Knight. But I never knew the back round or what was going behind the scenes. His asst coach who is black and was named Sun Conf Coach of the Year last year ..did he ever say to Danny " your going to far,c'mon coach you can't say those things " I always wonder that .
anyway North Texas has a 5'8 hair plastered hair coach that doesn't look like a college coach. I sat right behind him when he coached Ark LR or Ark St playing Tex St. One of his centers about 6'11 didn't box out and he took him out and chewed his ass pointing his finger up at that 6'11 frame. He was fearless and his player just had his head down and keep saying " my bad coach ". Grant Macfarland was his name. Total control of his team, ball control so well coached . I fell in love with that coach. Then North Texas fired its coach and I though Kasper was a finalist for the NT opening. I was in NY for the summer and heard North Texas hired Grant as their new coach. "A home run"
anyway both teams won their conference but lost in their tourneys and both are dancing at the junior prom and have to be somewhat disappointed at not dancing with all the seniors. But think both teams will be motivated tonight and cannot forget last year in the opening round of the NCAA's Purdue drew North Texas and were upset because North Texas defense was probably better then most of the B-10 teams Purdue saw all last year. And although Grant has been away from the Sun Conf he is familiar with Tex St having played them many times ..
Tex st is in the same boat tonight. Bobcats are going against the best defense they have seen all year. And although Tex St defense is outstanding NT has seen solid defenses in Conf USA
Think the under is still a solid play and think NT can wins this in double digits .. but if I like both teams in my heart. but my heart has made me rip many betting tickets up. Remember I am A Phillies,Knicks and NY Giants fan and have many ripped stubs ..good luck back later with a few more

in one of the North Texas chat rooms they said 1st team to 40 wins . I like the under more then the -9 . NT contest all open shots but Bobcats swing that ball around and are patient for the open shots . Small,Harrell and Ashburry are already squaring up for that open shot. Tex St doesn't have any inside presence in the paint and they like Harrell to dribble pentrate and kick out to Small and Ashburry . But Bell and McBride for NT recover and go out to challenge . I'm more worried about NT's Free throws They are one of the worst teams in the country shooting FT's I fear NT up 8 or 9 and Tex St fouling and NT missing FT's and letting Tex St backing in under the number. NT plays that slow down offense . There pace is like waiting for paint to dry. And Pt gd Perry is really smart and dangerous. NT had Hamlet last yr the best player in conf USA and I thought you can't replace him but Grant found this juco kid who although is not as good but very close. To me the key of the game is who slows down Harrell and Perry. Think NT is a little quicker and bigger . think both teams are motivated tonight so no let down for either team .
