Russell averaged 7 points, 4.5 assists and 2 steals this season. In his absence, the Dons will start redshirt freshman Jason Gaines at point guard for their four remaining regular-season games and the WCC tournament. After missing nearly all of last season with a knee injury, Gaines has averaged 0.9 points and 1.8 assists in 10.3 minutes a game this season.
John Cox, a starting wing player, also will play some at the point. With questions at the lead guard spot, Head Coach Mathews expects opponents to press the Dons.
