who didn`t see this coming?......5 years for 31mil?.....what did denver pay welker?...2 years for 12?.......

what this means is that the pats didn`t want welker back....they wanted amendola.....they wanted the younger guy with a similar skillset....and must feel comfortable with his injury issues.....

the pats won`t miss a beat(as long as amendola stays healthy)........

good move for them..

w/your reasoning being very sound..

Hoodie had all of Wes he wanted last year..

they tried to squeeze him out of the lineup when the numbers to resign him came up early in the season..

the results were horrific and Hoodie relutantly put hin back into the game plan of 15 targets knowing that was how his team would win games..

Hoodie gets a younger version of Wes..

without the cries of huge money..

Brady is pissed ..you can be sure of that..

Him and Wes tight as thieves.

NE and Denver 7-1 favs to win the SB before today..

nothing has happened in the league thus far today to change that..

It's Peyton's and Tom's to lose.

You were right on this move. I really don't see alot of difference between the two and this is a good move to save some money and get younger.

I don't think Welker will be as successful outside of the NE offense but, we shall see.

i know i`m sounding as though i`ve been sleeping in amendola`s underwear drawer, but he surprised me a few years back when i watched him play several games....i really was barely aware of the guy...

the injury issue is apparently a real one....will be one of the many interesting situations to keep an eye on this fall given all the free agent personnel changes....

he is a fantasy stud if he can stay healthy.

Welker will have a 100 catches w/Peyton dumping to him like Clarke and Wayne in 2009.

Peyton completed 393 passes w/3 possession receivers and a deep threat..

Denver has that in Aces now..

2 other very talented receivers got to play with the great one last season..

going to be fun racing to 35 points ..

pats will hate this in long run? how do you figure -- i think amendola is a great signing for pats-- and a clear upgrade imho over welker

listen, i know im from boston - but i might be the only non-patriots fan in the state - that said, welker is good, though amedola's hands are sooo much better than welkers that while the familiarity with welker will be lost, i think that aft 6 games danny'll be fititing in just fine

welker though will be blowing up in denver (in a good way) --becase the only place he could go, and look better was with peyton --

in the long run, pats come out on top with this move

again, a non-pats fan take on moves

i don`t think many folks are all that familiar with amendola,tball....apparently st lou is like an nfl black hole.....

if he stays healthy, new england fans should be very happy with this turn of events....even the welker lovers(as a raven fan,i`ve always been a big welker guy)...great fit for both guys...

looks like this trade will make for a bit of a friendly rivalry...

I have respect for both WRs, and they come from the same school, went undrafted. yadda yadda. Comparisons rampant.

The thing is, NE paid Danny MORE than they couldve paid Welker. The biggest difference besides age in the two is the injury factor.

The move doesnt make sense. Amendola will be fine when hes on the field.

sums it up nicely i think

This isn't about whether the Patriots should have kept Wes Welker. This isn't about whether Danny Amendola deserves more money than Welker. Or about the Patriot "cold heartedness" letting popular players walk.
As far as we're concerned, this is about Danny Amendola for 2013. And for that, we see it as a really nice upgrade for him. Amendola's pre New England stat line looks very similar to Wes Welker's. They have very similar skill sets and it's not hard to envision him sliding right into Welker's role and becoming extremely effective. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see his catch total jump up to the 85-95 range. Wes Welker went from 67 catches in Miami to 112 in New England the next year. Amendola caught 63 passes in St. Louis last year. It's not hard to envision a career arc similar to what Welker saw.
The big question though will be Amendola's durability. Since 2009, Amendola has missed a whopping 23 games. At 5' 11" and 188 pounds, he's simply just not a big guy. Injuries are difficult to predict of course but if there's anything keeping us from getting over the top excited about Amendola for this year, it's durability.
Bottom line is we love the move for Amendola and he should rise up draft lists everywhere based on the news. And for the Patriots, it's just another example of New England being New England where they've made a choice that looked to be emotionally tough but from a football business perspective, they'll likely come out looking just fine.

I had him on my Fantisy FB Team the last two years, good player.....But 5/31 for someone new coming into the mix on that team over 2/12 and a crowd favorite....We'll see :0008

everybody`s making great points....i think new england is smart enough to realize that for this caliber of investment, they can`t do what st louis did with amendola.....that is run a guy that`s under 6 foot and in the 180`s into the ground....takes an awful lot of touches to lead the league in all purpose yardage....the guy obviously can`t handle that workload....that`s probably one of the main differences between the two...welker `s sturdier.....amendola has better hands and is younger.....

new england definitely gambled on amendola`s health....you have to think they feel confident that the guy can hold up(10 mill guarantee).....

but if he doesn`t and welker puts up welker numbers again, they`ll eat an awful lot of crow...and a large guarantee.....

now we have to suffer through an enture baseball season....
