NHL Report - November 26th by Sports Interaction
American Thanksgiving is an important checkpoint in the NHL season. By this time, teams have a pretty good idea of what they?re working with and will begin making major changes if necessary. That?s why there are so many trade rumours circulating right now. It?s also a good time to look back at any NHL betting trends we?ve noticed so far. What?s the big NHL betting story so far this year?
The biggest NHL betting story is the Montreal Canadiens. They are the most popular bet in the league and it isn?t even close. What will be interesting to see is whether that betting support holds now that the injury bug has put Brendan Gallagher on the shelf for a while and has Carey Price?s status up in the air again. Can the Habs keep up this pace without those two players? It?s highly unlikely unless they bring in some support. As well as the Canadiens are playing, they?re coming up to a busy stretch in their schedule and might be a risky bet moving forward.
Which team has been the biggest betting surprise of the season so far?
I don?t think anyone expected the Dallas Stars to be the second most popular bet in the league. Sure, the Stars are loaded with offensive talent, but they don?t have the longstanding fan support usually coincides with continuous betting support. Of course, hockey bettors love goals and Dallas is averaging 3.5 goals per game, thanks in large part to Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. The only thing hockey bettors love more than goals are wins, and the Stars are doing their part in that department too. They rank eighth in the NHL in betting profits so as long as Dallas sits near the top of the Western Conference standings, this team is going to see a lot of betting support.
On the flipside, which teams have left their betting supporters hanging so far? Should we expect them to become better bets as the season progresses?
The Anaheim Ducks have lost their bettors more money than any other team and the Edmonton Oilers haven?t been much better. With Anaheim, we?re already seeing glimpses of how good this team can be and it will only be a matter of time until the Ducks are back in the playoff picture. The Oilers are a different story. They were a very popular bet before Connor McDavid was injured, but that support has lessened since. Now, while the Oilers still have a big fan base, hockey fans know they aren?t the same team without McDavid so they?re backing off. We?re expecting average betting support until the rookie comes back, followed by another surge of support for the Oilers. By the end of the year Edmonton will still probably be one the of the NHL?s most popular bets, but least profitable.
