In those three year I had the 6, 11, and 9th picks. Not necessarily in that order as last year is when I had the sixth.
This year I have Calvin Johnson rated at 6, no qbs in the first round, but that is because I have already resigned myself to not draft Rodgers unless I was into the second round or something obviously. I think you need an elite RB that gets a lot of touches in a ppr league. RB's like Ray Rice and McCoy, Foster, Mathews, Johnson, C. Johnson WR, Forte, etc.. get lots of touches and are on good offenses. This year you will see the run on Receivers start mid second round. Again, I have my own rating system really but my second pick will usually be a top three receiver on my board. If there is an elite back available, for instance this year I have the 11th pick. My second round pick is something I would like to trade down in in the second actually and up in the third as this is where all the players I have targeted are kind of grouped up.
Anyway, in the second is usually where I go for the best available player and this year the next three picks of mine will be receivers. Here is the deal also, don't jump the gun on your qb whether you have Ice or JC targeted because there are others that will get you similar numbers. Consistent starters is how I go and I take my defense and kicker dead last. I draft only one defense and one kicker and TE usually but I will also draft both cutler and Ice if they fall to me and they are the best player available where I have them placed and trade one of them when I need something during bye weeks.
SJax is a big strong guy and I agree with everything you say about him and Jeff Fisher, here is the problem with them together. Jeff Fisher is going to bring a zone blocking scheme to that offense and SJax is not the back for that blocking scheme at all. I think he will struggle as far as the blocking schemes Fisher likes to run are designed for a fast double cut back. I also have questions on pass protection and the fact they drafted a third down back in Peeh in the early second round. If you look at the way CJ2K was successful was with misdirection and weak side runs that require an early cutback which is why SJax lost some weight this offseason in an effort to be lighter on his feet but I just don't see me taking him anywhere before number 30 or so. I have Shonn Greene rated higher because, well because of everything. If you want a back I would not make him my choice for an early round pick. I would much rather have Murray or Forte.
Martin in TB, Turner, and the law firm are better options for you in later rounds. All will be starters on better offenses and get you similar numbers and not be a health question. Ahmad Bradshaw should be available in the third also if you are really worried about a back but he does catch a lot of passes.
I am all about the best player available and having tiered players in each category.
Adding; The Eddie George years were also a different offense and blocking scheme. Eddie also had a VERY mobile QB that was a threat to run at any time, and he had nobody behind him either. Also take note as to how fast Eddie declined once he did. His first bad game was the last decent game he had due to the number of touches he got. I think the offenses and qb's are far too different to think that he is going to make a power runner our of SJax. Don't get me wrong, I have had him twice and when he is good his is awesome but it always only three games a season.
Hope that helps,
