If I am considering getting into a small business that I think will generate about $100,000 sales a year..............what is the most amount I should pay for rental space to run the business?

Not to be a smartass,b ut if you think it will generate $100,00 a year, then it will probably generate about $20K the first year, $40K the second, then if you work hard enough it may produce $100K in the third.

But to answer your question, there is not enough information to answer.

Good luck! I think there are several business owners on here, so fire away on the questions.

questions:

1) new(start up cost) or established business(sale price)
2) what service or produce are you providing
3) find out the following costs for your business
a) insurance
b) labor -if any-
c) utilities
d) cost of supplies -if any-
e) advertising
f) state & federal tax -if any-
4) how many "like businesses" in your area
5) how much do you need to pull from the business per month -if any-
6) owner run business or employee

Things to think about:
1) have a business plan in place
2) have a good bankroll to start
3) have someone experienced do the books and bills
4) owning a business is alot like gambling, time and money management are keys to success.

Good luck with your venture
:D :D

Good post Sportsaholic

I would add just one more question:

Is location important ?
If this business relies on customer walk in business, you need to have the business in a location that has street traffic. The rent that you pay will be more than if the business does not need the traffic. If traffic is not needed than you should find the least expensive rental space possible.

Good Luck
