Mens Fitness Magazine came out with their annual survey. My question is, since when did MFM become an authority on this. Anyway, this is their list:

Smartest

1. Minneapolis
2. Boston
3. Denver
4. St. Paul
5. Seattle

Dumbest

1. Fort Wayne, Ind.
2. Corpus Christi, Texas
3. Laredo, Texas
4. Las Vegas
5. Newark

How do you determine the dumbest and smartest cities in the USA? Matt Marion of Men's Health says criteria include:

Bachelor's degrees per capita

Residents' SAT scores

State creativity scores (patents per capita, for instance) as assessed by Catalytix and the Richard Florida Creativity Group

Number of universities

Number of Nobel Prize winners for physics and medicine born within city limits

I'm partial but New York City has to be on that list, it has a very high capita income and something like the area with the most people making $100k + per yr, of course some bad areas but you also have some of the richest people in the world working and living there

sorry that was slightly off topic, I meant to say there are tons of doctors and attorneys making high incomes, professors, etc and I thought it would've been on the list, per capita income probably isn't a factor

I don't know what they used but I do know a study of the school systems in the us was done by dept of edu. about 1 month ago because was in the vegas paper and all over the news, The state of nv was 2 worst in the us for standerd test scores of all grades, and clark county which vegas was in was listed as the worst city for schools with the testing used and gr rate, the gr rate in clark county is less then 58% it is the 2nd largest school districit in the nation the paper said, but 58% gr rate is sad, then paper said lot of it had to do with yes resorts, saying kids could drop out of school and get a job at a casino starting out most union 12.35 per hour or they went to or could go to dealer school or bartending school and get a job at one of the resorts and start out on avg at 15 bucks per hour and after 2 years be in the 20 buck per hour range toping out at top resorts around 55,000 to 65,000 grand , alos cocktail waitress were high up on the pay scale. Then they also said and don't know if I buy this the district being over 50% hispainic also hurt the test scores??? hard to say one ethnic group would make scores lower at least to me or at least that low, had to be some stupid white kids also in there.

They also said lot of hate using this word but immigrants had to drop out and could get housekeeping /porter jobs at the resorts to help there family get by and they start out at 10.75 per hour to do housekeeping at the resorts. So they were damn close with vegas being number 4, since school system in nv was 2nd worst in us and clark county (vegas schools ) were last, now henderson and summerlin were rated much higher in the scores but the vegas city scores and gr rate was sick.

kudos to LV schools for not padding their scores, like majority of Texas schools. they might be less smart but at least they are not cheats.
