Can I call my smartphone a dumbphone? Sometimes I get so angry at it when it won't stop dropping calls or the autocorrect types stupid shit I don't mean to write no matter how many times I go back and correct it. There are times when I wanna just chuck the darn thing.
Other than that, I feel like these things are making people dumber - dumbing people down with instant answers, mindless apps and idiotic status updates and tweets about stuff that nobody should give a shit about. Not to mention I constantly see faces blatantly staring at them as I wait at a stoplight or sit in slow moving traffic driving around LA. I'm as guilty as the next person for relying on one of these things, but I feel like I'm stupider for it much of the time. Anybody else feel this way, or is it just me? I mean I walk into an f'n Starbucks the other day and I counted 12 out of the 14 people in there, sitting alone or with somebody else, all with their faces buried in their iPhones, Androids, iPads or MacBooks. It's like they're plugged into another world.
For christs sake, I'm typing this rant on my iPhone because I'm too lazy to get up and do it on my laptop 10 ft away in the other room.
There are some scary changes taking place all around us in this world at the moment. Just think about the entire print industry becoming obsolete in the next decade. But I digress...
