Leaving Austin to Ashville NC American airlines on monday morning. My 4 kids rented a lake house in Gattinberg Tenn for a week. I just saw the pictures of the house .its a 3 story with 7 bedrooms and 6 baths over looking the Smokey Mountains . My 4 kids and their spouses and 7 grandchildren and my wife and me .. total of 17 are having our family vacation all together for the 1st time ever. My daughter picked Gattinberg because she thought it was about the most equi-distant to everyone . Its a 16 hour drive from Austin ,around 10-12 from Orlando and about the same from Philly. They are all driving but my wife and I had a free coupon on American airlines so we are flying to Ashville and then renting a car and driving to Gattinberg. I guess its a big resort area and we have free passes to Dolly world on one of those days. My daughter who works for Disney in Orlando hooked us up with someone she knows.
I read the brochure and the area looks beautiful . Being a civil war fan are there any civil war battle fields in the area. I take it there are no casino's in the area and thats why they picked this place. Just wondering if anyone has any hints and knows that area. Think we will be eating at home a lot with 17 people. Hate walking into a steak house and saying " we are 17 and need 5 high chairs and 6 childrens menu's .. lol I was thinking to myself. Is this vacation ?? And I like the ocean over lakes. My son in laws like fishing and I like red lobster. My wife will kayack and she 's happy. But it will be nice to have my whole family in one place so not complaining. My 4 kids told me they can't wait for Grandpa's story time with their children. Their kids have been warned that grandpa tells the best stories and he makes up different endings from the one they heard. There were 4 little pigs not 3 ,and goldilocks trashed the Bears house when they went for a walk. My 3 daughters and son asked me " dad please give them a PG version of the story and not the wolf eating ' little red riding hood" when she says " what big teeth you have my dear" .
Anyway all 4 of my children are successful and have families so my changing a few endings didn't hurt them in life. But I will give their kids a PG version of these bedtime stories. The mama bear and papa bear did not eat Goldilocks and Hans and Gretal never found there parents .. lol if anyone has any hints on things to see or do in the Smokey Mountains let me know
