I was hoping it was a misprint. I've never seen anything like it. Did they also convert on 4th down before that?

I'd love to hear the explanation for that decision. It can't be logically explained. Very suspicious.

Biggest play I made all year and enough to cover today's loses. What a bunch of BS. Glad I don't watch many of these games, my heart couldn't take it. :bsflag

I never believe the 'game is fixed' bullshit but one this makes me wonder. There is no reason to go for 2 there. If they want to win the game then go for 2 on the next TD. Not this one.

Exactly how I feel Jack, that two-point conversion was good enough to work on any play especially to win a game why waste the call there and show everybody that play when it means nothing.

in over 45 years of sportbetting I have never seen this before and there have been over 1000 (probably over 2000) chances for a coach to do never has it been done, as it makes no sense.

big supporter, maybe mattress mack, had to tell coach not to lose by more than 6.5 and he would be take care of him.

where did mattress mack go to college? he's from texas, and won money on the astros even if they lost the world series as he had about 14 million on astros to win world series and sold over 20 million in mattresses with the guarantee, so he came out ahead even though he lost the 12 million he bet on the astros.

I had Memphis(-6) and "survived" the debacle.

But "go for 2 when down 8" has been an emerging analytic for years.

(2) https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/...8-points-two-point-conversion-eagles-vikings/
(In the NFL, the odds might improve with the arguably less "automatic" extra point (although many college kickers are no where near as automatic as their 32 NFL counterparts).

("the math is on the side of going for two")

My quick research didn't find any direct response from SMU coach Sonny Dykes on his thinking, but I have heard talk that he is quite aggressive on his decisions to go for 4th down conversions because of analytics . . . Making some alumni happy in the process would probably qualify as a good thing, too.

You don?t use that play unless you?re going for the win. Why show that play in a loss. As for the analytics it?s the same as baseball they only mean something when it works

There was no doubt in my mind they would go for two. They were successful on the first two attempts and Memphis was not playing any defense, so they were confident.

The officiating was terrible in this game and very one sided. There were at least 3 bad pass interference calls, a horrible blocking in the back call on the kick return for a TD and a missed facemark penalty all that greatly benefited SMU. That is what should be looked into. Without some of these penalties, this game is not even close.
