You make a very good point; USC might play a few ranked teams...but I want to see them play some tough defenses week in and week out that hit harder than any other conference and can pound the ball up the middle as well.

Teams in the SEC are much more prone to injury and dont have the luxury of recovering for three weeks from high ankle sprains, bruised sternums, and other small injuries that would put someone out for a week or two.

:mj07:

Auburn played @ Miss. St. before playing LSU @HOME then followed that tough LSU game with home game vs Buffalo @HOME. :mj07:

Let see, what is Auburns next tough game. They play @South Carolina (crappy team) before playing FLORIDA @HOME. Then follow that tough FL game with TULANE @HOME. :mj07:

Then Auburn plays Ole Miss (sucks), Arkansas St. (WTF), Georgia (who is WAY over-rated) but lets pretend that is TOUGH game but that is still @AUBURN.

When does Auburn play anyone good on the road? We saw how AU looked on the road against South Carolina breaking in new QB AND freshman OL.

Auburn just made YOUR POST look silly. :142smilie

LSU who is also an elite SEC team played weakest opening 5 games of any team in CFB, but FL is tough team in there schedule which is followed by KENTUCKY. So where is the brutal back to back tough SEC games week in week out? LSU doesn't have any. Top of that, LSU only plays 4 road games all year.

LETS PRETEND GEORGIA IS AN ELITE TEAM. They play Ole Miss before Tennessee and VANDY after TN. TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH. BTW, TN is @GEORGIA. Then GEORGIA plays Miss. St. before Florida and Kentucky AFTER Florida. TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH. Georgia plays Kentucky before Aurburn. So where is Georgia schedule so tough week in week out? Is there OOC schedule early in season tough with Western Kentucky :mj07: , UAB, and CO? I guess it is the SEC so it must be tough.

FL does have tough schedule, i give them that. The only 2 teams in the SEC I respect are TN and FL. Year in year out they play tough schedule. That means the entire season.

I still don't understand why FL playing WESTERN CAROLINA? Guess FL really isn't an elite team if they must schedule directional schools for easy W's. Don't cry when you are left out of BCS.

ALL IN ALL, your post is quite silly. :nono:

okay so PSU hung around...OSU didn't look that great but I could say the same thing about a number of teams in the top five...but you need to consider what they've done this season with their road wins...how can you possibly say they don't win big games...sorry they don't get up for the lesser teams in the conference...next thing your going to say is the Cincy game...what more does OSU have to do earn that ranking...geeez they could go undefeated in the conference then people would still say we don't belong...

I think you are finally getting my point. I say leave OSU at #1. None of the top 5 teams have pulled away so imo OSU should stay #1 at this time.

I'm sorry but not getting up for lesser teams in conference is a joke. Penn St is not an Indiana, Northwestern, etc that you overlook. Penn St is a traditional big game as well as a revenge one.

OSU has looked good in flashes, each team in the top 5 has. However no team has fully looked superior to every other.

Please, people are tired of the USC train.

More SEC fans will travel and book flights, hotels, rental cars, local eating, etc.

Now if you dont consider these in your business model, I think you're sadly mistaken. The NCAA absolutely considers traveling and economics in its decision. Gator Nation is one of the largest followings in college football, and Auburn has a rich history as well. Both "nations" have the alumni backing to travel and boost the local economy of the town hosting the national title game.

I just want to watch the rest of the season and see how realistic all of these arguments are in the next month. This topic shouldn't be discussed too much because everything is basically a far-fetched hypothetical.

Lets talk after October is over.

I agree that the SEC has a huge following, football is #1 in the south. However a couple of years ago, it was the same exact way, an SEC team ran the table & still never sniffed the title game. I thought it was bullshit but that is what went down.

I think it would be foolish to rule out that same scenario playing out.

The fact is USC has the inside track if they run the table. They will most likely be #2 in the BCS throughout & it would take them losing & whomever is in front for an SEC team to jump.

SCOTT SEC TEAMS ARE FAR BETTER THAN ANYTHING IN THE PAC 10 If you cant see that after 3 drillings you know nothing about football!! Vandy would beat the bottom seven teams in the Pac 10!!! Your conference is weak!! Your team is mediocre and in a great situation of no competition!! BE proud of that!! Thats the only way they can win!!

The SEC is the toughest conference from top to bottom. However I do not for one second believe USC would lose more than once if they even did.

I was one who used to believe USC could get smacked around. I was proven wrong & I will not doubt that team again.

I've seen them adapt their style & they could play any type of football. If you want to line it up & play the SEC way, they would do it just fine.

I mean they have played teams from more "physical" conferences & name once when they were smacked around in the last # of years. The answer is never.

The problem is everyone thinks Pac 10 & thinks throw it around 50 times a game & outscore your opponent. I hate to break it to you but some of the Pac 10 is playing physical just like the big boys.

The thinking was made even stronger when Cal looked shellshocked playing @ Tennessee. I tell you one thing, they play that same game tomorrow, it would not go down like that.

Keep thinking a team like USC can't adapt & play your style & watch how you end up looking like a fool.

Until the great Sec teams play the good Pac 10 team we will never know. LSU, AUB, or FLA against USC. In the south all we have Football, its our life, so when the pac 10 fans try to steal say they are better it really gets under our skin. The BCS NC game is in Glendale, Arizona. I think they would prefer USC vs OSU matchup. USC travels well anyways.

dlvlsu

You throw out your opinion with nothing ever supporting it. YES TN beat CAL @TN. Is TN going to play @CAL? Will TN have brand new QB starting first game on road in hostile environment? Because TN beat CAL, I have TN ranked #10 and not CAL.

Same with WSU and Auburn. Is Auburn going across the country to Pullman to play WSU?

I wonder if USC would have beat WSU by 6 @USC? Why does USC have the nations longest winning streak at home? Last time USC lost at home was in 2003.

I think WSU @home will have higher probability of playing solid ball against USC and against conf. opponent. OOC games are always easier than conf. games. At least for USC it is that way. WSU fans have said this was WSU's best game in last 2 years yet they still couldn't beat USC. WSU QB Brink was on his game and he is veteran QB who knows the offense. USC only had 5 returning starters from last years team starting in the game @WSU. SO GIVE ME A BREAK!

EASY to win at home. TOUGH to win on the road. Is that why SEC teams are AFRAID to play on the road? Is TN playing @CAL? Is Auburn going to play @WSU? LSU did to home and home with Arizona. Auburn did to home and home with USC and we know how that turned out. USC just scheduled home and home with Ohio St. Maybe the Big 10 will be tougher challenge to USC than the SEC was with Auburn and Arky. Sad thing is USC is 2-0 traveling to SEC with brand new QB each time making his first career start! 23-0 @Auburn and 50-14 @Arky. OUCH! I wish USC played in the SEC! Directional schools for OOC play, 2-3 tough games year (often @home) against elite teams, 8 home games, no NFL caliber QB's/offenses. Sounds good to me!

USC @Arkansas
CAL @TN
Arizona @LSU
Washington St. @Auburn

BRAG all you want SEC dominated Pac 10 3-1 but all 4 games were @SEC. Big fawking deal.

SEC best conf. top to bottom? I don't think so. SEC might be best conf. in terms of being top heavy. For $hits and giggles, I bolded the teams that would have shot at beating USC if USC played them on the road. Key word being on the road. I said a shot at winning.

Here is what many do @ this site. If USC played in the SEC, they have to beat Florida, Auburn, LSU, TN, Georgia etc. and then the SEC championship game. NOBODY IN THE SEC PLAYS ALL THOSE TEAMS! EVEN if USC joined the SEC they would not play all those teams. More times than not, couple of these teams are OVER-RATED.

Major difference are offenses. If I am USC, I would NOT want to play a team with high powered offense that is lead by NFL type caliber QB. SCARY! I much rather play a quality defensive team or team that doesn't run complex offense. This is why USC has had no trouble playing SEC teams @home or on the road, even when having QB's making their first career start on the road. I thought SEC stadiums are so hostile and tough? 23-0 @Auburn and 50-14 @Arky. Brand new USC QB's making 1st career start. We saw what happened to CAL @TN with QB making 1st start. But CAL is not USC. We are talking USC. #1 program in the country last 5 years.

I actually like watching SEC games because it is different brand of football. But I think it is more difficult to run the table in the Pac 10 vs SEC. Especially when you factor in Pac 10 teams in general play tougher OOC schedules AND Pac 10 teams are not afraid to travel on the road.

just when i thought you were starting to turn the corner ....... you come with that.

its far far tougher to run the table in the sec.

but southern cal would fit in just fine in the sec and be contending for an sec championship every year.

Scott the SEC is a better top to bottom conference. I think this could change in a few years as programs like Arizona & Washington are coming back on.

However at this time the SEC has more quality teams.

Top: Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee

Middle: Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina, Vanderbilt

Bottom: Everyone else

I know you might not agree but teams like Kentucky, South Carolina, & Vanderbilt are clearly improving.

Most years those teams were automatic wins but nowadays it is clearly not the case.

Brooks is doing a great job at trying to build up a Kentucky program that lost a ton of scholarships. He will soon get a full amount & will help in recruiting.

Alabama has talent although some question the head coach. They are probably a real good coach away from being a top team again.

South Carolina: My boy Spurrier will have this team turned around. I guarantee within 4-6 years they will be a national title contender. I think he would give USC a game in Columbia.

The Pac 10's top teams are clearly

USC, Cal, Oregon

Middle: UCLA, Washington, & Washington St

Bottom: Arizona, Arizona St, Oregon St, Stanford

Now I think the 3 teams in the middle are on an upswing. I also think Arizona is on one as well.

Arizona St has a good team with alot of talent, they are just not well coached. I bet they could be a top Pac 10 team if they had a coach they truly believed in. I am shocked Dirk has lasted as long as he as.

Oregon St: They will be a bottom team until they get rid of Riley. He is a nice guy but his teams contiously looked unprepared when playing quality opponents.

They can beat up on the E. Washington's & Idaho's of the world but do jack shit against good teams like Boise, Cal, etc...

Yawn - Same argument every year! The problem with SEC fans is that they say the same sh*t every year. Last year the SEC was overrated! Yet, all of the SEC homers said they were the best conference by far all year long.

This year the SEC is probably the best conference top to bottom, but after hearing the same crap last year people who live outside of the South don't want to listen.

LETS SEE THESE SEC STANDARDS........:scared

*Arizona St. won @Colorado 21-3, while Georgia beat Colorado @home 14-13 in a game they should have lost. Yet Georgia is elite while ASU is at the bottom? This is classic example of SEC BULL$HIT! UGA has wins over Western Kentucky, South Carolina, UAB, CO, and Ole Miss. Who is impressed with that $hit? But that earns you elite status in SEC! I WANNA PLAY IN THE SEC! :mj07: A bottom of pack PAC 10 team in ASU beats CO on road by 17 and an elite SEC teams struggled badly to beat CO @Georgia and they are an elite SEC team. PAC 10 sure is TOUGH! Thanks for supporting the Pac 10 for being tough!

*South Carolina beat Wofford by 7pts @S. Carolina. Struggled to beat $HITTY Miss. St. @South Carolina. And beat Florida Atlantic. Played Auburn tough @home. So S. Carolina a middle of the pack team in the SEC with this resume. Interesting.

*I agree with Vandy.

*What the hell has Kentucky done to earn middle of the pack? Beat Texas St.? Beat Central Michigan? Beat Ole Misss? Blown out by UL and beat soundly by Florida. That is middle of the pack for ya in the SEC.

*Arkansas is middle of pack SEC team. They lost @home to USC who was starting a brand new QB 50-14. Does not say much for SEC. I guess wins over Utah St. , Vandy and Alabama earn you middle of the pack. Ok.

*Alabama has wins over Hawaii, La. Monroe, and Vandy so they are middle of the pack SEC team.

*The following are considered middle of the pack Pac 10 teams.
"Middle: UCLA, Washington, & Washington St"

*Washington's only loss of the season was @OU who is currently ranked #13 in the country. Lost by 17pts but gave OU a solid game. (tied at halftime) Also has win over Fresno St. in OOC play and UCLA. A lot more impressive resume than some of the SEC middle of the pack teams.

*Washington St. has 2 losses on the year and that was to #3 Auburn @Auburn and to #2 USC. Gave USC a solid game and almost pulled upset. That is middle of the pack team in the pac 10. A lot more impressive resume than some of these SEC middle of the pack teams.

*Oregon St. is bottom team in the Pac 10 but their losses were @Boise St. and CAL. 2 very tough opponents especially @BSU. That is considered a bottom team in the pac 10.

*Arizona is bottom team in the pac 10 with 3 losses but 2 of them were to #8 LSU @LSU and #2 USC who they play tough against. Arky lost to USC @Arky 50-14 and Arizona lost to USC 20-3 @ Arizona, but Arky is middle of pack SEC team and Arizona is bottom team in the pac 10. WOW! PAC 10 SURE IS TOUGH!!!!! Arizona has a lot more impressive record than some middle of the pac SEC teams. Maybe they should have scheduled La. Monroe instead of LSU.

TELL ME AGAIN WHY I SHOULD BE IMPRESSED WITH THE SEC CONFERENCE? 12 teams in the SEC right?

I LOVE SEC LOGIC!

We only have football? Strange, I seem to remember a little match up back in April...

:mj06: :Yep:  :grins:

Anyway, this topic has gone a little off and is unraveling into a non-civil shouting match. I've made my points, nothing more to add. This USC guy is asking who Auburn plays on the road...I'm just curious but who does USC play on the road? I posted your schedule, just a bunch of nothings.

When I am putting respective teams on different levels, it isn't strictly based on what they have done this season.

Arizona is a team that I think is a bottom Pac 10 team but getting closer to the middle of the pack.

I'm basing it on recruiting, strides gained from where they were, among other factors.

This is why I made the statement about the Pac 10 "I think this could change in a few years as programs like Arizona & Washington are coming back on."

Scott why are you picking & choosing what points to bring up? I am a believer in USC like you are but I am not nearly as biased.

If you are going to daisy chain games based on who they played, USC's case does not look strong when speaking of the Cougs & Auburn.

I know the road is a tough place to play but that reason can only account for so much. You must still go on the field & perform.

Teams like Kentucky had tons of scholarship problems which hurt recruiting. His teams have been improving even with this problem & are giving better teams a tougher & tougher time.

This isn't a fluke, it is a team showing it is on the upswing.

Please look at the programs individually & see how some in both conferences are heading the right direction.

The results don't happen overnight which I'm sure you understand.

I don't get how Arizona St. beats CO @CO 21-3 and is known as bottom team in the pac 10. YET, ASU bottom team and UGA elite team. I am just pointing out different standards.

Arky loses to USC 50-14 @ARKY and Arizona loses to USC 20-3 @Arizona. Arky middle pack SEC team and Arizona bottom team in the Pac 10.

I have nothing against you. Just your opinion. I am pointing out FACTS of what has been accomplished so far this season.

All in all, I think your original post shows how tough the Pac 10 really is and what high standards are put on the Pac 10 and what low standards are put on the SEC.

I love debating with SEC fans. :142smilie

I'm not saying what you posted are not facts. Those games were played & that is how they went down.

As I said I'm not basing my opinions of teams on the rise or decline on just this season which is barely a month old.

Arizona St is a program clearly headed in the wrong direction as far as coaching goes. The Sun Deviils do not produce resuls matching the talent they have. When something like that happens, it is mostly because of coaching.

Oregon St is the same way, what have they really done under Riley. He is a nice guy who the players like but it is not a fluke his teams look unprepared when playing good teams.

I am a SEC fan but admit I like & respect the Pac 10 & see it as a conference on the rise. I'm not living in a bubble of hatred towards the conference.

I'm just calling it as I see it at this very time. I do feel the difference is much smaller now compared to say even 5 years ago.

Georgia is my top tier catagory as they have been a consistent top flight team in the last few seasons although they have not played as well this year.

How much do you actually follow the SEC? UGA's QB went down and they are on the shoulders of two freshman. You cant use that example...

The Team A is better than Team B which is better than Team C therefore Team A is better than Team C argument is tired.
