On the course!
I would love to have her and her hubby remove some rats from the attic, and then cancel the check for service!

When they call me back, I'd tell them, "You understand........it's the economy and all. You should have known better than to accept a check from me", and then hang up.

Yep --The gov refers to that as home owner relief--
some highlights in article--

"Instead of the house dragging us down, it?s become a life raft,? said Mr. Pemberton, who stopped paying the mortgage on their house here last summer. ?It?s really been a blessing.?

The average borrower in foreclosure has been delinquent for 438 days before actually being evicted, up from 251 days in January 2008, according to LPS Applied Analytics.

More than 650,000 households had not paid in 18 months, LPS calculated earlier this year. With 19 percent of those homes, the lender had not even begun to take action to repossess the property ? double the rate of a year earlier.
=====================

In Florida, the average property spends 518 days in foreclosure, second only to New York?s 561 days. Defense attorneys stress they can keep this number high.
Both generations of Pembertons have hired a local lawyer, Mark P. Stopa. He sends out letters ? 1,700 in a recent week ? to Floridians who have had a foreclosure suit filed against them by a lender.
Even if you have ?no defenses,? the form letter says, ?you may be able to keep living in your home for weeks, months or even years without paying your mortgage.?
About 10 new clients a week sign up, according to Mr. Stopa, who says he now has 350 clients in foreclosure, each of whom pays $1,500 a year for a maximum of six hours of attorney time. ?I just do as much as needs to be done to force the bank to prove its case,? Mr. Stopa said.
==============================
A strange new world out there--

Individuals are simply following the example set by many large corporations and political leaders. Never admit error - always gouge from whoever you can.

on those "strategic defaults" folks make when underwater on a mortgage, I saw this quote by:

Brent White, an associate law professor at the University of Arizona.... says homeowners should make the decision on whether to keep paying based on their own interests, "unclouded by unnecessary guilt or shame." He says borrowers can take a cue from lenders that "ruthlessly seek to maximize profits or minimize losses irrespective of concerns of morality or social responsibility."

Blaming others for your ignorance is spilling over into the student loan industry as well. Although its almost impossible to walk away from student loan debt.
The last paragraph really sums this up nicely.

~Ms. Munna understands this tough love, buck up, buckle-down advice. But she also badly wants to call a do-over on the last decade. "I don't want to spend the rest of my life slaving away to pay for an education I got for four years and would happily give back," she said. "It feels wrong to me."~

This girl got her interdisciplinary degree in religious and women's studies. Just what do you do with this type of mind numbingly stupid degree?

Stop your damn whining and start paying.

Why worry about getting into the best college when you pursue the worst fucking degree? Moron.

PS: She looks 46, not 26.

i only hope come the inevitable electoral storm in november,that these "ruthless" s.o.b.`s are allowed by "big brother"to become as ruthless as the media portrays them and kicks the deadbeats out onto the street where they belong...and lets the rest of us off the hook...cause we`re tired of footing the bill...

this house of cards congress set up(all in the name of affordable housing)by forcing banks and pressuring lending institutions into extending loans that they know that the borrowers are incapable of ever repaying is reaping what it sowed.........

the problem grows like a cancer, and no one does anything to stop it(actually,they run interference for it)

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_MGT_cSi7Rs&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_MGT_cSi7Rs&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

because it would be considered racist or unfair to stop lending to those incapable of repaying......

there is a great crazy afoot, and sadly, it's right here at home......:sadwave: hopefully we can start peeling it back in november..
