Some interesting ones I BOLDED - might make Duff understand that we are not living in 1950's America anymore.

#1 According to an analysis of U.S. government numbers conducted by Terrence P. Jeffrey, there are 86 million full-time private sector workers in the United States paying taxes to support the government, and nearly 148 million Americans that are receiving benefits from the government each month. How long can such a lopsided system possibly continue?

#2 Ten years ago, the number of women in the U.S. that had jobs outnumbered the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps by more than a 2 to 1 margin. But now the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps actually exceeds the number of women that have jobs.

#3 The U.S. government has spent an astounding 3.7 trillion dollars on welfare programs over the past five years.

#4 Today, the federal government runs about 80 different ?means-tested welfare programs?, and almost all of those programs have experienced substantial growth in recent years.

#5 Back in 1960, the ratio of social welfare benefits to salaries and wages was approximately 10 percent. In the year 2000, the ratio of social welfare benefits to salaries and wages was approximately 21 percent. Today, the ratio of social welfare benefits to salaries and wages is approximately 35 percent.

#6 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, the total number of Americans on food stamps has gone from 32 million to nearly 47 million.

#7 Back in the 1970s, about one out of every 50 Americans was on food stamps. Today, about one out of every 6.5 Americans is on food stamps.

#8 It sounds crazy, but the number of Americans on food stamps now exceeds the entire population of the nation of Spain.

#9 According to one calculation, the number of Americans on food stamps is now greater than the combined populations of ?Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.?

#10 According to a report from the Center for Immigration Studies, 43 percent of all immigrants that have been in the United States for at least 20 years are still on welfare.

#11 Back in 1965, only one out of every 50 Americans was on Medicaid. Today, more than 70 million Americans are on Medicaid, and it is being projected that Obamacare will add 16 million more Americans to the Medicaid rolls.

#12 The number of Americans on Medicare is projected to grow from a little bit more than 50 million today to 73.2 million in 2025.

#13 Medicare is facing unfunded liabilities of more than 38 trillion dollars over the next 75 years. That comes to approximately $328,404 for each and every household in the United States.

#14 If the number of Americans enrolled in the Social Security disability program were gathered into a single state, it would be the 8th largest state in the entire country.

#15 In 1968, there were 51 full-time workers for every American on disability. Today, there are just 13 full-time workers for every American on disability.

#16 It is being projected that the number of Americans on Social Security will rise from about 62 million today to more than 100 million in 25 years.

#17 Overall, the Social Security system is facing a 134 trillion dollar shortfall over the next 75 years.

#18 According to the most recent numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau, an all-time record 49.2 percent of all Americans are receiving benefits from at least one government program each month. Back in 1983, less than a third of all Americans lived in a home that received direct monetary benefits from the federal government.

Many will read this and will assume that I am against helping the poor. That is completely and totally not true. There will always be people that are impoverished, and this happens for many reasons. In many cases, people simply lack the capacity to take care of themselves. It is a good thing to take care of such people, whether the money comes from public or private sources. In every society, those that are the most vulnerable need to be looked after.

But it is a very troubling sign that the number of people on government assistance is now far, far greater than the number of people with full-time jobs. This is not a sustainable situation. The federal government is already drowning in debt, and yet more people become dependent on the government with each passing day.

The long-term solution is to get more Americans working or starting their own businesses, but the federal government continues to pursue policies that are absolutely killing the creation of jobs and the creation of small businesses in this country. So our epidemic of government dependence is going to continue to get worse.

And many of these programs are absolutely riddled with fraud and corruption.

Aaaaah. Another cut-and-paste job from Infowars, the great the-sky-is-falling site. Don't you ever do even a tiny bit of research/learning, or have an original thought?

I'm not going to wade through that load of manure and make all the necessary corrections. It's your source, so you vet it.

However I will point out just one bit of silliness.

Medicare is facing unfunded liabilities of more than 38 trillion dollars over the next 75 years.

Whoa, that sounds horrible, right?

What's our GDP going to be over the next 75 years? You don't know, do you?

Here, I'll give you a hint: OUR presenr GDP is 16 trllion. Assuming just 4% annual growth, out total GDP over 75 years will be more than a quadrillion dollars. So, can we afford to spend less than 4% of that on Medicare? Of course we can.

But, still, Medicare is facing unfunded liabilities of more than 38 trillion dollars over the next 75 years. Sounds really bad right? Gotta be, Infowars told you so.

Unless you put it in some sort of context.

The house I now live in cost 250% of my annual income when I bought it. Not only that, but I have had to pay the principle, interest, insurance, taxes, utilities and maintenance costs. I suppose if I added all that up, this house cost at least ten times my annual income at the time I bought it.

Guess what - It's been paid off for twenty years, and all of the associated costs have been paid. No sweat, no strain. You must think that's either a falsehood, or a miracle, right?

Now get back to your Limbaugh/Hannity clowns.

WASHINGTON -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad are following a formula in which the common denominator is to embarrass the United States, Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said Sunday. He added that the "wisest thing" Assad did was use chemical weapons to slaughter 1,200 people, and predicted that Putin will only escalate military aggression in Ukraine if the U.S. doesn't take swift action.

"I think the [Obama] administration is basically saying to Russia, 'Look, don't do anything overt. Don't come across the border with 40,000 troops. Don't embarrass us in that way. But you can continue to undermine the sovereignty of Ukraine by doing the things that you've done,'" Corker said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Corker, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, accused President Barack Obama of leading the U.S. with an "air of permissiveness" since the Syrian government used chemical weapons against its own people last August. Corker argued that Putin, like Assad, doesn't believe he will pay any penalty for increasing Russia's military presence in Ukraine following its seizure of Crimea last month.

"It's going to be too late," Corker said. "I hate to say such a crass thing on Easter Sunday morning ... The wisest thing that Assad did really was to kill 1,200 people with chemical weapons. Because, in essence, we said, 'Don't embarrass us anymore that way. You can go ahead and kill another 60,000 people with barrel bombs and by other means, but don't embarrass us.'"

Looks the the GOP is going to initiate nuclear action on Syria and Russia.

I dont' read Infowars.

Here is a nice link about the usefulness - or should I say uselessness - of GDP.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-04-19/its-time-retire-gross-domestic-product-measure-prosperity

Buy hey, you are a relic so you will hold to your outdated standards.

Interesting - you blast a possible source for the info - (wrong) and then want to use GDP as a reason for the stats being wrong or misinformed.

But, you can not argue that all of the stats point to it being worse NOW.

As for Tesla, there have been 3 fires in cars that were purchased - not counting the 16 that caught fire in the lot of the factory. Unlike a Ford Pinto - that cost $2200 and caught fire after being in an ACCIDENT, the teslas appear to have an issue with.........water. And this from a car that starts at $70k.

Don't read? Okay, you just quote from them.

http://www.infowars.com/18-stats-that-prove-that-government-dependence-has-reached-epidemic-levels/

Stats worse now? What's wrong with these stats?

In the last 22 months, businesses have created more than 3 million jobs. Last year, they created the most jobs since 2005. American manufacturers are hiring again, creating jobs for the first time since the late 1990s.?

There?s little dispute the economy is gaining strength. In the last quarter of 2011, the US Gross Domestic Product grew by an annualized rate of 2.8 percent. The good news is that we gained 200,000 jobs in December and the US has had 22 straight months of job increases.

Here is one of the sites I DO read.....I do not visit Infowars.

http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/

If the economy is roaring along, why is the FED continuing with QE?

If the economy is improving, why does the market consider bad news good and good news bad, ie - on supposed bad news days, the market goes up and on good news days, the market goes down.
(I'll give you a hint...it is linked to the first ?)

All those jobs being created...hmmm...then why is the % of the population in the labor force DROPPING?
All those jobs being created....quality jobs or minimum wage jobs? Full time or part-time? Benefits or no?

Headline: 9 of the top 10 Occupations in America pay less than $35,000 per year.
Since you like charts, here is a good one for you:

Employment-Population-Ratio-2014-425x282.jpg

But hey, I thought Obama had this recovery thing worked out? Didn't we go through a 'recovery summer" already? Weren't there ka-billions of "shovel ready jobs" just waiting to be filled?
I mean, COME ON, we've spent an additional $5 Trillion + - we should be BOOMING by now, no?
That's the headline from the Keynesians, right? Deficit spending is the answer?

Keynesian economics is crap. Paul Krugman is crap. The world is awash in debt that can never, ever, ever, be paid back - even at super inflationary rates.

OH - yeah - I forgot - Fed gov't going to send $100 Billion to Detroit for pension bailout.
You have got to be kidding me....so dumb citizens who voted in stupid politicians who made promises to people that could never be kept now get bailed out by citizens of other cities and states who had no say in the elections in Detroit?

$100 Billion!!!!!!!!!! Most people can not even comprehend $1 billion let alone $100 Billion.

The US recently sent $1 Billion in aid to the Ukraine (which promptly landed in the coffers of Russia as a payment on the Ukraine's overdue natural gas bill)....
The average salary of a policeman in the US is $50,ooo. Many major urban centers in the US are having crime issues and more police on the streets is always an issue.
$1 Billion / $50,000 = 20,000 policeman could have been hired in the US for the $1 billion Washington sent to the Ukraine.

The salary of 2 million cops for 1 year was sent to Detroit by this administration to try and help ease the pension issue for the city of Detroit.

AWESOME!!!!!!

Your chart shows two things. Bush kicked employment off the cliff, and Bama has stabilized it, even beginning to turn up a bit.

You bitch about Kensyian economics? What about the Laffer economics adopted by every Republican since Reagan?

The more you cut taxes, the more taxes you will collect?

And if you believe that, I've got this bridge in Brooklyn.....

You might look at Germany for an example of how to manage wages, taxes and social welfare. Higher wages and higher taxes than the USA and more socialist programs. How are they doing?

Of course they aren't feeding a bloated MIlitary-Industrial monster or letting hugely profitable corporations avoid taxes.

Where have you gone, Dwight Eisenhower? A nation turns it's lonely eyes to you.

You're criticism of ssd is bogus. The Laffer Curve concept is an offshoot of The Keneysian Economic principle.

Main article: Laffer curve

Although he does not claim to have invented the Laffer curve concept (Laffer, 2004), it was popularized with policy-makers following an afternoon meeting with Nixon/Ford Administration officials Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld in 1974 in which he reportedly sketched the curve on a napkin to illustrate his argument.[11] The term "Laffer curve" was coined by Jude Wanniski, who was also present. The basic concept was not new; Laffer himself says he learned it from Ibn Khaldun and John Maynard Keynes.

Fox News host Sean Hannity said Thursday that Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy's racist remarks are ?beyond repugnant? and ?beyond despicable.?

For the past several weeks, the conservative Fox News network has given a major platform to Bundy. Some of its hosts and guests have portrayed his standoff with authorities over not paying fees to use federal land as a populist fight against an encroaching government. In a two-week stretch this month, Fox News devoted four hours and 40 minutes to Bundy?s story during late afternoon and evening broadcasts, according to progressive watchdog Media Matters.

But Fox News was noticeably silent on Thursday morning as others reacted to Bundy's controversial remarks on race, published Wednesday night by The New York Times. The Times' Adam Nagourney reported that Bundy had wondered during a public press conference if ?Negro? people were ?better off as slaves."

Fox News host Greta Van Susteren quickly condemned Bundy?s remarks on her blog, but media attention remained focused on how Hannity might respond. That's because Hannity has led the charge in promoting Bundy?s cause and, in recent days, sparred with Jon Stewart on the issue.

The "Daily Show" host ripped Hannity for dropping his typical law-and-order posture-- at least when it comes to undocumented immigrants or Occupy protesters -- in favor of supporting a rancher who has flouted the law for two decades and ignored court decisions ordering him to remove his cattle from land he doesn't own. Bundy had declared a "ranch war," and armed militia members flocked to the scene.

"Apparently Sean Hannity thinks laws are served buffet-style in that you can pick and choose the ones that you like best,? Stewart said Monday. ?The ones that you don't like, you don't have to abide."

Hannity acknowledged the media attention Thursday by welcoming the ?liberal media," who were ?waiting for my comments breathlessly."

.................................................................................................................

Hannitys hero is gone now.
