i haven`t been around much lately..been pretty busy.....but,i have some observations on last night`s stuff...

first off,...casamayor`s head is as lethal a weapon as anything i saw land with a glove on it last night....

i heard diamond`s corner tell him to watch out for casa`s head....several times.....but,and i was listening closely,i heard nobody working the ref....maybe i missed it..

every sport`s sideline or corner guys should be working the ref...

what`s the sense of warning your guy?...scream at the ref between rounds....get his attention...try and get yourself a point...which,in this case, turns the fight into a win instead of a questionnable draw....

the corner work i`ve seen recently has been abysmal...aside from goossen......

floyd mayweather sr is an utter moron...mcgirt is way overrated...

even stoney stone works the ref...i`d rather have him in my corner than some of these so-called great trainers...at least the guy`s an advocate...

and i have to add fenech talking about geting tyson "some rounds"....?????

alot of what happened last night falls on fenech,imo..a good bit,actually.....tyson never comes out like that....and he apparently got tired quickly with this huge guy roughing him up...and laying on him..

the idea is to win...and get another payday...anybody that was under the illusion that mike was gonna be champ again needs shock therapy...

getting rounds?.....that means they thought the win was a forgone conclusion....

and that`s ridiculous...39..coming off knee surgery...inactive....get a win...move forward.....get out of there....

on the tyson fight...and fenech`s blunder...

""The first round was an even event, as it seemed as if Tyson """didn't hurl one punch with bad intentions on it during the entire three-minute session.""" But it was Tyson, looking better at times in this fight than he had in years forcing the action, employing head movement and good footwork. After Mike ran off three rounds, McBride seemed to realize that the Mike Tyson of 2005 is not the one-punch knockout artist that he once was. And as Tyson tired, he became frustrated with McBride's holding.""

bobbing and weaving but not punching?

i said on another site,if this thing got to the 5th,mike could be in trouble....

maybe he loses anyway...but a 5`10", 39 year old puncher has to make hay while he`s fresh...not after a few rounds of having a 6`5" 271 pound behemoth lay on him...all the while gaining confidence... fenech could fight....but,he really screwed up here...

i can hear mike`s creditors screaming at fenech from baltimore......

finally, laila ali, while probably talented, appears to be ducking all the real challenges that are available to her...

she was offered lucia rijker...who is soooo much smaller...she "should" beat rijker...she`d have 20 pounds and appreciable height on her....

but,it`s not an absolutely sure thing like fighting the matron, christy martin...

she`s obviously avoiding ann wolfe and letitia robinson....

the girl she fought last night had 7 fights...total...no stoppages....can you say"safe opponent?"...say erin "not so tough" toughill....

ali could well beat robinson and wolfe...and rijker....she`d be the favorite in each fight.......she`s the face of women`s boxing....

she needs to put up...

I didn't say anything about the details of the fight b/c I knew it would sound like I was making excuses. So let me say first that Tyson should have beat McBride regardless of his trainer's strategy and McBrides holding/tying up tactics.

Having said that...

Before the fight started I wasn't worried about the rumors of Fenech wanting Tyson to get rounds in b/c I figured once he got in the ring he would throw all that out the window and do what he does best.

However, after the first round it was obvious Tyson wasn't trying to get McBride out of there early.

Another thing that influenced the fight more than I thought was McBrides height advantage. Tyson obviously had a very hard time reaching his head, and when he did it usually wasn't flush.

If I was Fenech, I would've told Tyson to attack the body like it was his head. McBrides body was soft and wide open the entire fight. Tyson landed at will when he decided to go there. The last few rounds Tyson was throwing huge desperate shots at his head, he should have stayed calm and worked the body.

No excuses but I'm tired of watching fighters get away with holding and smothering their opponent to avoid exchanging punches. We saw it with Sheika against Lacy, Hatton against Tzsyu, and many others. McBride held Tyson the entire fight and Cortez let it go. If you can get away with that sh*t its a smart more, but its weak and won't get you any respect.

I have the Cotto-Abdulev and Casamayor-KD fights on tape, haven't seen them yet, I'll get back later.

you know how i feel about holding in fights...used as a tactic....

it`s ashamed that there`s not a more universal adherence to the rules when it comes to holding....

not even for boxing`s sake...but for the fan`s sake...

i was thinking that shieka/ lacy was going to be hell on wheels...but,shieka turned into john ruiz and it turned out to be a lousy fight to watch....

shieka survived..but,it was a lousy fight to watch...

refs need to be a little more proactive...refs are reticent to put their hands on fighters and physically break them...

they need to earn their pay...

i know some say the best fights are the ones that you don`t know that the ref is in there....

i tend to disagree...

i thought lacy/sheika was pretty good.

i think if there is excessive holding, the judges should score that as part of the ring generalship. if the round is close, and one guy held most of the round, give it to the other guy. see JL Castillo vs Casamayor.
