There is a driver on the Nascar Circuit named Kenny Wallace. He's been a Nascar driver for quite some time and finished 2nd to Dale Earnhardt in last year's Talladaga Race. Kenny has unfortunately lost his major sponsor for the year. A major sponsor on a particular race car in the Nascar circuit can run anywhere from 9-15 million dollars a year!! It is not uncommon for a race to cost $150-$200 thousand bucks!
Well, a few weeks ago, Kenny Wallace found a sponsor for his car. The company is Royal Crown who sell spirits all across the United States. Dunno how many different brands of liquor they sell, but I'm assuming it's a whole bunch if they have that kind of dough to sponsor a car in the Winston Cup. Wallace and his crew were gonna carry the sponsorship as "The Crown Royal Fishing Tour" and the car was subsequently gonna be painted using that particular theme. To say the least, Wallace and his crew were VERY VERY happy about the news. This sponsorship would enable the team to finish out the season with plenty of cash in their cupboard.
NOW GET THIS......The officiating body of Nascar has determined that Crown Royal can not have a sponsorship due to "the nature of the company's business". I almost lost my lunch when I read this shit!
Does Dale Earnhardt Jr. not drive a big red car with the word Budweiser plastered all over it? What about Rusty's car and the Miller Lite insignias covering his car? And what about Mark Martin's Viagra car? And let's not forget who sponsors Nascar itself: WINSTON CIGARETTES: The same Winston that kills thousands and thousands of people every year using THEIR product! Is a liquor sponsorship that much worse than the products listed above? Is liquor that much different than BEER? Which is more dangerous?
Nascar wants to portray the sport as a family sport, but helps promote cigarettes, viagra, and beer!! I just don't see the reasoning behind this move...
