Outright plays (1.5pts):

Fred Funk to win 25/1 e.w. @ Bet365, William Hill and Tote
At this stage of the season, there is a lot to play for and that means lot of pressure. Some players on the 'bubble' for their Tour Card have very high finishes, but very rarely do they win events. There is too much to lose from playing aggressively in the final round. Instead, these selections have their playing right secure for 2005 and in the case of Funk, he has his incentive this week. He currently lies in 40th place in the Money List, the last place that guarantees entry into the 2005 Masters. With two top-3 finishes in his last five starts and a creditable performance in the Ryder Cup, he is certainly playing well enough to win this event and having finished 1st (1998), 6th and 3rd in his last three appearances at Annandale, there is plenty of reason to support him this week.

Loren Roberts to win 33/1 e.w. @ Tote
Not the same incentives for Roberts and he is much more of a consistent top-25 finisher than a player who gets himself into the top-5 every few weeks, but this is a B-class event played on a course on which his lack of length will not be punished. He finished 6th in his only previous appearance here (2001) and really should be no more than 25/1 in this field.

Tim Clark to win 33/1 e.w. available generally
Clark does finish on the leaderboard more often as he showed when finishing 5th two weeks ago in the Texas Open. That erased any doubt over retaining his Tour Card for next season and there should be an improvement in form and consistency as the season closes. He made his debut in this event last year and shot every round in the 60s to finish 7th, so his course form also suggests a good week for the South African.

Matchup plays (1.5pts unless stated):

Loren Roberts to beat Jonathan Byrd +100 @ Bet365
Will take these odds on an outright selection to beat a player who did win a Tour event in July, but has otherwise been very erratic since returning from injury. If Byrd does bets Roberts it will only be the second time in eight common events that he will have done so.

Kirk Triplett to beat Jonathan Byrd +100 @ Pinnacle [3pts]
Great odds for this matchup. Triplett has excellent course form with a worst-finish of 23rd in seven visits to Annandale and has dominated this matchup in 2004: he leads Byrd 12-2-0 h2h this year.
(also available at Five Dimes)

Hank Kuehne to beat David Duval -130 @ Olympic
Continuing to oppose Duval, though thankfully dropping Baddeley from this task. As predicted, Badds only had to make the cut last week to win this match, but he failed miserably. Having made the cut in seven of his last ten events, Kuehne should perform much better and should need little more to beat Duval.

Joey Sindelar to beat David Duval -110 @ Pinnacle [3pts]
Sindelar won the Wachovia Championship in May, has made the cut in his last five events and leads Duval 5-1-0 h2h in 2004. This is a mismatch in their current form.

Senden much better rated and enjoys over 2 stroke 4th rd scor ave-frankly I don't understand this line--these that look too good somehow find way of losing--but gotta give it a roll.

Whats with the early start @ Amex ??--got up at 4 and all matches were off :(

Outrights - FINAL RESULT: 2-1; +25.64pts

Funk 1st
Roberts 3rd
Clark 8th

I wish I had this many players in contention in every event! It became a putting event and in a blanket finish, Funk and Roberts, in particular, held their nerve very well in the final round.

Matchups - FINAL RESULT: 3-1-0; +5.55pts

Roberts/Byrd WON by 2
Triplett/Byrd WON by 1
Kuehne/Duval LOST by 3
Sindelar/Duval WON by 4

Good profit on the matchups to round off a very good event. Was fortunate that the tight games went our way, but there will be plenty that won't.
