Betting the Masters ? Matchups
By Brian Taylor/SPORTSBETTING.COM
The first Major of the 2011 PGA season gets underway Thursday with the Masters at Augusta National and looking at current odds to win the Masters, it feels as if the field is more wide open than it?s been in years.
Phil Mickelson is the current favorite, while Tiger Woods takes a back seat at this event, an unfamiliar spot for him?but hey, lots of things have changed for Tiger the last year or so.
Here at Sportsbetting.com, the bulk of Masters betting is on the Head-to-Head matchups.
Like everyone else I?m sure, we?re getting quite a bit of attention on the Phil Mickelson (-170) vs. Tiger Woods matchup. It?s not even close in terms of who bettors like, as early action is all over Lefty with 73% of the betting volume and only 27% on Tiger. Tiger did finish fourth last season?who knows.
Two of the more popular head-to-head matchups involve Dustin Johnson (57%) vs. Rory McIlroy (43%) and Bubba Watson (61%) vs. Graeme McDowell (39%).
Johnson is favored by -140 on the moneyline vs. McIlroy. Odds opened at -130 but with 57-percent action, the line has seen a small shift.
Bubba Watson (-140) is favored over Graeme McDowell and with Watson ranking second overall on the PGA Tour for Greens in Regulation (GIR), a lot of bettors feel he is a legitimate contender to win the entire tournament.
Golf Betting Tip: Since 2000, nine of the 11 Masters winners have ranked fourth or better for that week in the greens in regulation statistic.
Might want to keep that in mind.
We also have a little Masters Contest running you might want to check out:
