SINCE STEVE SPURRIER HAS LEFT US HANGING FOR AWHILE, I HAVE BEEN MEANING TO UPDATE MY FILE (EMPTY NOW) ON ANY COACHES (FOOTBALL OR BASKETS) WHO SEEM TO SHOW LATE GAME STRATEGIES OR AT LEAST DISPLAY CONSIDERATION FOR COVERING THE SPREAD. DO ANY OTHER COACHES SEEM TO KEEP THIS IN THE BACK OF THEIR MIND? THIS IS MY FIRST THREAD...........PERHAPS IT WILL BE SOMEWHAT USEFUL. I'VE ALWAYS WANTED ANY OTHER INPUT GEARED TOWARDS THIS SUBJECT. RIGHT NOW, I HAVE NOTICED THAT AT LEAST 2-3 TIMES, THE DETROIT PISTONS COACHING STAFF HAS SEEMINGLY LEANED IN THAT DIRECTION. ANY OTHER INPUT?? HIT EM HARD.....THE HITMAN

The one team that makes a habit of narrowly beating the spread over and over is the San Antonio Spurs. Ironically, they missed by a 1/2 pt last night but in the past 3 years they've had many, many narrow covers. Could be a coincidence but I laugh every time I see it happen.

THANKS VALUIST.......I HAD SAN ANTONIO ON THE SHORT END MYSELF LAST NITE. THEY WOULD HAVE COVERED IF PERHAPS WALKER'S LAST 3 FOR BOSTON WAS TAKEN QUICKER OR IF THE REBOUND CAME DIRECTLY TO SAN ANTONIO IN TRAFFIC. I IMAGINE THE LIST OF COACHES AND THE PERCENTAGES OF THEM THAT PARTICIPATE IN WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IS PROBABLY VERY SMALL, MAYBE EVEN NON - EXISTANT TO THE NAKED EYE. BUT, I THINK IT IS AN INTERESTING TOPIC, NONETHELESS.

Hitman,

Very interesting thread, I've been considering starting a database just on this sort of thing. Only one I've noticed, is don't bet on Harrick and Georgia if they are favored by quite a few. And especially don't bet an over if they are going to be winning. He gets up more than 10 points and he starts to milk the clock. Everything comes to a grind.

huggins

huggins

one coach who I trust to lay whippings on people is Huggins with Cincy -- many times, it sure seems he brings in overmatched opponents and buries them, maybe because of their style of play and his personality? he seems to be as merciless with the margins of victory as anyone.

Thanks for the input, guys. I may start another similar thread again at another time, maybe for football or in the Pro baskets area. Baseball, I guess, will not apply. Anyone else care to chip in...........feel free to do so. Surely, there is another coach out there that will pick up Spurrier's slack, no??

I have to agree with you guys on the Spurs, lost on the hook the other night also.

Seemed ironic last night in the Duke game. Up over 40pts very late in the game and end up not covering the number in the end.

coal, coach K seemed a little ticked at the end of the game.....apparently he was not fond of the rougher thn usual play against his boys. his handshakes to the opposition after the game looked alot more like forearm shivers. still, instead of pouring it on, they let alot of cover points slip away, so go figure.

I am gonna cheat a lil bit just to bring this thread to the top of the page again. Perhaps there are a few weekenders who didnt see the post who will have some additional input to add. i thought we would come up with just a couple more examples, but, hey, maybe they dont exist ! As i mentioned, perhaps i will run it again at another time or in a different area....... Thanks, The Hitman
