Sometimes there comes a game that you are close to and here it is FYI.....
-Buffalo has very few BB rivalries this is one. They did not play last yr and the Golden Griffs are PISSED. Bonas has been doing much better and many feel that they are snubbing their noses.
They renew tonight in the Redone Koessler Center. The last time I was there it wasn't fit for a church-league game. The capacity is small(1,100) and is sold out. However, I see VERY little home court advantage. The house will be at LEAST 30-40 pro-STBona fans and alumni. The atmosphere reminds me of a big game in High school. If you normally give 3-5 pts for home court give maybe 1-1.5.
-Bona has MUCH better athletes BUT they are much less disciplined and have been off for 10 days. Bona has played 10X the schedule that the Griffs have. They played "close" at least by score with BC\STL\Alabama\Davidson. However, still have 7 losses in a row. Canisius has wins ag Bucknell and a BIG 20 pt win ag Niagara(in-town rival). The only quality opponent was STJoes and was a 7 pt home loss.
-Stats lately have been similar. Bona has been ICE from 3pt range for them 31% and only 36% from the floor. No bombs going in mean NO wins. The Griffs have shot 41% from 3 and 47% from the floor. Rebound Margin is similar and this is key. Bona has bigger athletes-but all the Griffs pound the boards.
Thought I would give coaching edge to Jan Van-but Mike McDonald has been doing ok with his team.
Bottom line is that STBona(my alum) is MUCH MORE talented-BUT this game has UPSET potential written all over it. If the Bonnies make their 3's Canisius will not be around. But can a team come off a 10-day layoff poppin from 3??
Does this warrant a Big Griff play-probably not.
Big Rivalry The Better Team playing Bad. The Dog playing well.
Small play on Canisius +6.
