Drinks are not free at Illinois casinos either. What bean counter says is true and I would valet if you go to the Queen. Like I say, I park at the Landing and take the train over there and have never been concerned with safety. The way I heard it was some thugs noticed this older gentleman winning $$$ at the tables and followed him out to the parking lot and demanded his cash. The old guy wouldn't give it up and they shot him. They got busted eventually. Where isn't there crime?
Harrahs is where I go mostly, but it is quite a drive from downtown, especially with traffic problems.
More St. Louis restaurants:
Shannons ? Downtown on 7th street. Walking distance from hotel, Busch stadium. Great steak and seafood. Mike Shannon, Cardinal broadcaster, owns this place. Lots of baseball memorabilia d?cor. Sports Open Line show on KMOX is broadcast from here after weekend home games.
Morgan Street Brewery ? On the Landing. This is a big 2-story indoor/outdoor bar with microbrews that never has a cover charge. Good for warmup drinks if you are headed to casino. They have pool and darts. I have never eaten there so cannot comment on food. The later it gets, the younger it gets and from 12:00 to 3:00 it?s a lot of jager-imbibed twenty somethings fighting for space on the dance floor. Sometimes literally.
Harry?s ? On Market Street. Awesome place with terrific view of city. Only go here if the weather is nice because you got to sit on the patio and have a cigar. Food is good. Good place to take client or prospect.
The Hill ? Italian district. Great place to take clients, prospects, mother in law, hookers. There are two places I stick with over there: Charlie Gitto?s (matter of fact there?s one of these downtown too) and Cunetto?s. Gitto?s is a little classier and better food but Cunetto?s is casual and they don?t take reservations. Get there after 5:30 on a weeknight and be prepared to hangout in the bar for an hour. Gitto?s is where Tommy Lasorda always hangs out in StL. You can also see the house where Yogi Berra grew up on the Hill.
The new sports bar I was trying to remember is Jacques. It is in the new Sheraton, caddy corner from Savis Center. You can walk there from your hotel in less than 15 minutes, although I would not recommend walking back after dark. Take a cab. BTW, we have a Mortons too. It is Clayton.
Titty bars: Well there are some really wild places (Roxys) that I have been to that are not exactly in good neighborhoods. Matter of fact, a few of them should be required tours for Fire Marshall training. Places where the shower dances (at least two showerers at a time) begin at 1:30 AM and you can get special services in trailers that border the parking lot. (I am in sales and have taken guys over there).
I have been to these types of places everywhere from Anchorage to Miami and never seen the likes of these shower antics in a ?public? club. The first time I went to Roxys I kept looking over my shoulder for the SWAT team as I was sure this type of highly illegal erotica would be raided at any moment. This place is in Brooklyn, Illinois and I would not recommend going here unless you have been drinking heavily and feel you have the strength of ten men.
Your better option is Diamond Caberet and/or PTs. Easy to get to: go across the Mississippi river bridge (East) and stay in your right lane. Take Hwy 3 South. Go to first traffic lites ? less than a mile ? and you will see them on your right. This area is entirely safe, I guarantee. DC is more upscale but not snobby and expensive like a Gold Club type place. You can get in free to either place with a ticket stub from a Cardinals or Blues game. DC offers lapdancing for thirty bucks, but they don?t constantly hound you to do a lap dance. PTs is a little raunchier, older, good long neck beer type place with three or four stages. Both these places are totally nude and the girls are beautiful. The girls are truly beautiful.
ryson, what about the golf? Are you bringing your clubs? I usually play golf out west here but if you need to take somebody out I can recommend some places. What do you sell? I sell software to telephone companies.
