could someone please give me some advice. i requested a withdrawal from my sportsbook in the sum of 5,000.00. the check they sent me was to be drawn out of a canadien bank (the check was in us dollars) my bank put a 3-4 week hold on this check. which i thought was totally ridiculous (maybe not i dont know). this deposit was made on dec. 31 and here it is jan. 15 and it still is not in my account. i have always gotten checks for 2,000.00 and no problems there . luckily i dont have any bills due til' the first of the month. is this customary practice ? havent had any problems before this. i know it hasn't been three weeks yet but geez you'd think it was the pony express. thanks for the time.

The way to clear funds like that is to call the bank that the check was drawn on and have them send over confirmation that the check was paid to the bank that you deposited the check at. I know it is a pain, but it is a way to get your money.

it is common practice in Canada to hold the cheque amount for 30 business days for a cheque drawn on an American bank and deposited here in Canada.

I am waiting for an american cheque to clear (actually cheque is cleared but they dont give access to the funds) .. the banks claim it is a lot of cross border work they have to go through and hence the 30 business day hold .. ridiculous if u ask me but thats how it works here. .

I am assuming it may be same in US also ..

Cheers !!!
