Xavier @ Stanford

Stanford is not ranked in any poll that I have seen yet. Xavier is ranked no lower then #12 in any poll that I have seen, and are mostly ranked in the top 10. Rankings though mean very little to me in College Hoops (ESPECIALLY THIS EARLY). Xavier really does have one of the best inside/outside combinations in the country (you will hear this over and over ALL YEAR). David West and Romain Sato have NBA potential, could have entered the draft last year but stayed around. We got to witness Monday night what we can expect out of these two all year-(at a minimum). Sato had 23 points and 9 rebounds. Shot the ball very well. West on the other hand did not shoot near as well as he is capable but still poured in 21 points and got 6 rebounds. Lionel Chalmers is a very experienced point guard who ran this offense the way you want to see your point guards run an offense (proficiently and nearly flawless). Xavier took care of the ball only giving up 7 turnovers. The competition was weak but they still blew them out only shooting 31% from the arc. That will improve!!! They will be up for this game because of the natural respect that the Stanford program gets. Xavier will want to go into Stanfords house and show the country that they are a team that is going to accomplish some great things this year. Stanford looked horrible in my opinion on Monday night. They didn't score a single point in the first 6 minutes of the game. They looked slow and unathletic. Josh Childress had 22 points and 11 rebounds, Justin Davis added 10 points and 13 rebounds. childress and Matt Lottrich were a poor 10-25 from the field, and Xavier has a lot better defense then Boston U. I look for Xavier to win this by a minimum of 10 points and could blow Stanford out. My ONLY reasonings for getting this line quick is that the public should be on Xavier (because the general public will look at rankings and see that Xavier is at the top, Stanford no where only 5.5 points spread) and with the game being played at Stanford the crowd should be fired up as a top 10 team is coming.

Rutgers @ North Carolina -11 (PASS)

This game has way to many unknowns for me. North Carolina looked great against a very weak Penn State team on Monday. The Freshmen really stepped up and gave NC fans a lot to be excited about this year and the years to come. Rashad McCants set a Freshman first game scoring record at NC with 28 points. He was 11-14 from the field, 3-3 from the arc, grabbed 7 rebounds, had 3 assists, and got 2 steals. Sean May (I am still so depressed everytime I hear his name or see him, as I am a die hard Hoosier fan that was born and raised in B-Town and this kid went to HS in B-Town, Dad played for IU and he chose to go to NC) had 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. NC shot 53.3% from the field and most impressively in my opinion looked very quick on Defense (held Penn St under 30% from the floor). This coupled with the fact that Rutgers starting Guard Mike Sherrod (4th in minutes Monday) and freshman Cortez Davis (did not play Monday) are questionable for disciplinary reasons.....AS well as the history of Rutgers should indicate that they will crumble in front of this BIG crowd....I should be all over NC!!!! BUT, Rutgers has experience and plays tough DEFENSE (3rd best points-against avg in Big East last year). Davis and Wooten will look to exploit NC inexperience. Jerome Coleman chipped in 15 pts against Columbia he will play better tonight (only 5-13 from the floor Monday). Rutgers only shot 1-12 from the arc in the 1st half, that should improve as well. They got their first game jitters put behind them and I feel that they will settle down, play tough defense and COULD keep this closer then the 11 point spread. Until I see more then one game with these Freshmen together and see how they handle two games in three days, I am laying off this one......

GOOD LUCK!

YAZ :) :) :) :) :)
