Stewart the favorite at NASCAR New York race

The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series pulls into Watkins Glen International in New York this weekend, with Tony Stewart, Juan Pablo Montoya and Jeff Gordon the favorites at betED.com.

Stewart is a +300-moneyline favorite to win the Centurion Boats road-course race, followed by Montoya at +400 and Gordon at +475.

Stewart is a three-time winner at Watkins Glen (2005, 2004, and 2002) and has won two of the past three Cup races. He's won five road-course events, tying him for sixth place among active and retired Cup drivers.

Along with his three victories at Watkins Glen, Stewart has a pole, four top-fives, and six top-10s. His average start is 5.1 and his average finish is 6.8.

Montoya is considered a top pick largely because of his previous success at road-course events, having won two this year, one in the Nextel Cup Series and one in the Busch Series.

Montoya, whose driving background includes significant road-course experience in Formula 1 racing, will be looking to make Nextel Cup Series history on Sunday by becoming the first driver to win on three road courses in the same season.

Earlier this year Montoya won a Busch Series road-course event in Mexico City and a Cup Series road test at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., becoming only the third NASCAR driver to ever post two road-course wins in different series in the same year.

Gordon, the Nextel Cup points leader, is the top road-course winner with nine. Four of those victories have come at Watkins Glen, where he also has two poles, six top-fives and seven top-10s. He has an average start of 7.4, and an average finish of 12.6.

Kevin Harvick won the event last year.
