Hey guys! Thanks for checking my question out first of all. Well, I wanted to know if anyone out there knew how I would get into the stock broker field as a career. If anyone would recommend it first of all. I have really been into stocks the past five years and have had a huge drive for numbers and figuring out stocks. I have some education background and am going for my B.A. degree and just wanted some insite on just how I would even start looking into getting a job as a stock broker or even just trying to work for a stock company to get my foot in the door. How much education you would need? What type of degree? What are some steps I could take to go in that direction? I was going to call for example Merril Lynch and ask them questions, but I know there are a lot of very educational people in here as well. Any kind of positive response would be great and I will keep you posted on any hot stocks that I come across...thanks again for your time.

I was a stockbroker for 11 years before I left to open my own business. I would contact a brokerage firm you have an interest working with and they may offer you the training you need. There are exams you need to pass to become licensed, series 7 is the biggie. Check around as each brokerage firm will offer different things like commission payout percentage, or draws, etc. You will be expected to accumulate assets of customers and generate commissions. My first day they gave me the yellow pages and told me to make 300 phone calls to business owners or residents on affluent streets or neighborhoods. Hi this is ----, if I come across an excellent opportunity in the near future, would you be interested in a call back to inform you? What kinds of investments do you have now, what are your concerns,(looking for assets to move). Then call back when you get a hot stock or something. You can do very well for yourself if your honest and hard working. Good Luck

Thanks for the insite Pirate fan!! I originally am going to school right now to get into the teaching field, but am kind of changing my avenues because I want to do something that I really have a drive for....as of now I am really green to the whole industry of stocks, etc., but wanted to get into it more and see what it's all about. I figured having some sort of educational background before I would consider trying to work for a broker company would be best because I'm sure these companies are not looking to hire someone with no experience or background. I wanted to know if getting some sort of business degree first would be best. I know having connections with someone to get your foot in the door helps out, but unfortunetly I don't know anyone in the business. I will call a couple company's soon and just see what they can tell me, but I just wanted to know what steps should I take to begin with...you know?

brokers come from all stages of life. I majored in economics in college but I know plenty of brokers who had no business sense. Most places will train you, at least the good ones as they don't want someone who is a liability representing them in the public workplace. Contact the manager of a branch and ask what they are looking for specifically. It may have changed over the years and you won't waste your time guessing if your taking classes that are helpful or not.:)

I "really" appreciate the feedback! I'm going to check into it this week and I'll let you know what I find out if you're interested. If you are looking for a nice stock to invest in right now I have another thread in here that I posted...check it out if you haven't already. It's a semi long term deal....six months or so, but the profit will be nice depending on how many shares you can buy now. The stock is MICU in the Nasdaq. It's been bouncing around $13.50 a share for awhile and I have a projected target date of about six months that it will be at $20 or more a share....hopefully more. I know this stock very well and it WILL go up by then....
