in a newsletter (based in cdn.) a columnist suggested shorting bank stock TD Bank.
now banks may come under pressure however stocks that trade at 12PE and yield close to 3% are not stocks I would look at shorting.
also instead of shorting you could buy a put option on the bank. however most cdn. banks are good long term investments and genrate large amounts of cash. with the thousands of stocks in this universe why pick out these as candidates for shorts.
have read and watched a few "experts" on television, claim that the base metal cycle is over, and these companies are short. companies like Inco and Teck. (Teck only trades on Toronto.)
now maybe the metals fall off copper and nickel, however what if you are wrong. Inco is the largest nickel player in the world after taking out Falconbridge they will save hundreds of millions of dollars in cost savings. also both companies have new mines coming into production and this bigger company should be able to raise cash easily.
Teck is a great operator and has just invested in the Cdn. oil Sands, though this is long term 3-5 years out, still has value. anyways hard to short metals stocks trading at 10PE with growing production and generating large amount of free cash flow, and increasing their dividend (espcially Teck). If there is a world wide recession they are correct hard to predict.
To die like a Dog.
have had three dogs in my life a black lab, scotish collie, and a heinz 47 (half collie, half german shepherd).
lost the last dog yesterday, most lived long lives 15, 13, but this one who I had for 18 months(she was 7), was hit by a car.
it was a fluke accident, anyways did not see it. I saw the dog is obvious pain and knew she was not in good shape.
despite blood coming out of her mouth, and hurt badly she got to her feet and jumped into the truck. took her to the vet. she did not make it.
anyways this dog like the two previous showed courage and grace and even strength (loved truck rides, and would sit behind the wheel when the truck stopped).
anyways believe most animals (like these) dogs face death much better than most humans. :sadwave:
going to plant 10 trees next week in her honour. and make a small donation.
thanks
