Alright, here's the scenario...

I will be made a job offer in the next few days. The job is 50 hrs/wk. Anything over 40 is time and a half. Is there a formula that will allow me to break down an hourly rate based on....

x = hourly rate
y = over 40 hr rate....
now i had y = 1.5 x
therefore 1.5x + x = salary
Salary = 2.5 x
Salary/2.5 x = ......

I plugged in a few #'s where I think their offer will be, and was just confused from there on in....

So, for the sake of argument, let's say in this salaried position, I only work the 40+10 hrs....cuz I know that many work much longer hours.....but just for the equation....any help? Would appreciate an explanation also, since I'm feeling quite dumb right now.....geez, 4 yrs out of HS, and just finishing college, and completely dumbfounded. Yes, I am the future ;)
Thanks!

If it is a salaried position, there is no overtime for anything over 40 unless it is specifically written into your employment contract.

If it is written as such:

40 X $10 - $400
10 X $15 - $150
Total - $550 per week

As an example.

x= hourly rate,
1.5x = OT rate

Weekly salary = 40x + 10(1.5x) = 55x

Overall hourly rate = Weekly salary / Actual hours worked =
55x / 50

Good luck.
